you could also try Ryno, they are the Australian arm of Lloyd's and their aim is solely to take on Shannons, they have a 4x4 policy.

I just did (straight after posting my last message). I called them and even with a two car discount to do both my Discovery 2 and my V8 Falcon, it provided no cheaper price than the $1,165.00 quoted online for the Discovery (the guys was sceptical and was having trouble believing I was only paying $800.00 at JustCar with the car insured for $5,000.00 more than he was offering!). Even AAMI offered me cheaper insurance than Shannons. And I did mention being a member of two Ford clubs and AULRO.

They offered me 10% off on my V8 Falcon due to being a second policy with them. Which made it $100.00 cheaper premium than JustCars (only $50.00 cheaper if the Discovery isn't insured with them), but that was with it being only used 3 times per fortnight, were JustCar are insuring it for daily driver use!

I called JustCar afterwards, and they won't go any cheaper on the ute as they don't have a low level use policy and don't price match (so even with the cheaper Shannons quote they won't move), so I might move the ute to Shannons as they are $50.00 cheaper, do include window repair, and the excess is $250.00 less. But no way I'd move the Disco there!

I went into Shannons office in Melbourne last week to discuss insurance for our soon to arrive Triumph Spitfire and my RRS. I need them to be insured on the VIN numbers when they arrive so I can get the VASS, RWC & VicRoads inspections done on them. Seemed to be a knowledgable pair on the counter, it wasn't an issue for them that neither of us have Vic licences or that the cars were going to be imports, which is much more than can be said for any other insurer I'd contacted. Quoted us $400 for the Spit & $1080 for the RRS, listing the RRS properly as a G4 car with a valuation to replace it with another from the UK (not that I would).

Overall, I'm impressed, so they'll get the business for the cars.

Were with allianz thru a broker for all our insurance premium (about 10 policies) When we got the patrol we did lots of research on what exactly our insurance covered when it came to 4wdriving.

The broker informed us that the PDS said it was only not covered if we were doing something the vehicle wasn't intended for. He said that would only be like if we took a Hyundai Getz 4wdriving or the 4wd on an officially closed road.

Anyway, all our fears were put to rest when I stupidly reversed the navara into a tree on a shooting trip, private property not owned by me.

It could have been a minefield of questions the least of which could have been... So the Time you did it was 7pm? on a shooting trip? Were you drunk? Prove you weren't!!! and that would have be a nightmare! We had no questions at all, i called and told the broker all the details over the phone, no forms, no ifs and butts, it was assessed and deemed totally "****ed" and a cheque in the mail within a week.

Now we got the disco, paid $16000 for it and agreed value is $28000. Although that'd be a wonderful payout, I really really hope I don't have to replace it after ALLLLLLLLLLLLLL the work I've done on it since buying it 6months ago.

Talk about piece of mind? Allianz has done it right by us.

Out of interest I tried an online quote with them for my ute. At the end it said it would be assessed and I would be called. A few hours later I got an email saying they declined to offer me insurance with no explanation.

    I agree with Barney2803,

I have both the D2 and my daily driver insured with Allianz.

I went with them for the D2 as from what I found they provide the best coverage including any public and private land within Australia as long as you are not breaking the law and are legally aloud to be there.

I specifically asked about 4wd parks and the above answer is what I recieved, I would think within reason though.

They are not the cheapest around but that is probably why they provide extra cover.

odd - doesn't sound very nice.

They got back to me as there system wouldn't give me an online quote, and after an initial phone call I have dealt with them mainly by email and my experience has been fantastic so far, but that's just my experience and not what others may have found. The main reason I went with them was Alianz bent me over and made me bleed even though they admitted it was a computer error on their part, so I went looking for a new insurer, a mate used them for his modified ford, and they cover me for anywhere I am legally allowed to be, gazetted or not.

Other people have had great luck with allianz so each to their own.

Happy to pm you their 4WD guys email addy if needed for a quote.

    He quite likes Range Rovers.

I just tried Alianz for a quote for my D2 and they won't insure it due to the 2" suspension lift being a modification. Apparently they won't insure modified vehicles.
