From back when I was on the tools,
fellow walks in and asks for a bearing for his tractor,
What brand tractor, location of part etc was asked......

"Its a red tractor and its the front wheel....you can fit an egg through the hole"

    (Me)..Oh I see, ...55g or 60g egg?
    Blank look followed.

Or another when I was working on a pump at a servo,
Volvo driver storms up to me and complains thet the pump nozzle is no good because there is fuel everywhere under his car.
I go and check straight away since I was just working on that pump.
No fuel coming out the filler or around the nozzle, so I look underneath.....immediately see a hole in the Volvo tank and fuel bucketing out.
I point this out and suggest not driving any further.
Guy breathes a sigh of relief and says" o good I thought there was something wrong with the bowser", pays for fuel and drives off!

    cheers

I was working on my race bike at the bike shop that sponsored me one day, when I over heard a customer asking if someone could look at his bike, the owner asked "what's the problem", customer says "I think the tappets are loose" owner "really what makes you think that" well it seems to be rattling a fair bit, OK bring it in and we'll have a look, so the customer goes out and wheels in his bike

I nearly wet myself, as did the mechanic and the owner, he says you do realise it's a 2 stroke, customer "is that bad?

I'm in a bike shop to get an oil filter. Guy is there getting a repair quote for a bike thats been 'down the road', gravel rash on the rider indicates the same for him. Mechanic says, "What happened?" Genius says, "Well, I was just givin' it some down the highway when the cops jump out in front of me with the 'stop police' sign. So I knocked it down a couple of cogs and gunned it to go round em.....and they knocked me off with their sign."

Years ago when living in Sydney in the 1970's my mate and I recieved a panicked phone call from his mother, could we come to *** service station as she had put oil in the car, but didn't have enough money and needed lotza xyz dollars
we jumped on our M/bikes and went to said station, she had filled the sump of her Austin 1800 to the top of the rockercover so we pushed it over to the side of the servo and then I went home to get as many 4litre oil cans so we could drain it, kept us in engine oil for our cars for months.

A couple of months ago I fitted a gas conversion to a D series V8 Ford horse box. The farm handyman ( who happens to be a competent shed builder) saw the exposed air filter element. Not happy with the way it might get dirty if left exposed, he carefully crafted a cover out of an old aluminium pot. Trouble was he didn't leave much of a gap for air to enter the element, on average about 0.5mm around the lower flange. Needless to say, the next time they attempted to drive it it didn't start on gas. They managed to drive it on petrol though, and the resultant restriction was so high it tore the gas converter diaphragm (almost new). The phone call resultant was about "it wouldn't switch over to gas". Luckily the handyman wasn't in when I came to remove the cover, I killed myself laughing for a while.

I souveniered the cover for posterity, its next to a gas mixer similar to the one on the horse box.
