Just a permanent resident visa and stay for 4 years. It was only 2 years when I took my citizenship. Best thing I ever did.

Another congratulation from another Pom (Well half Irish, half English).....I'll probably get mine soon....no rush though....I feel a wee bit Australian already!!....Even though i married an Australian so my entry into this great country was relatively easy, I still feel very honoured and privileged to be here and proud to call it my home....

Becoming a Permanent Resident is the harder part. I only needed to be a PR for 1 year and then I was eligible for Citizenship as a result of my being here for so long. For most it's 2 years now I believe - but this is variable and seems to change every year based on who's in power and the national skills shortage.

To attain PR, if you have enough "points" then you can simply apply. points are scored for occupations in demand, age, experience, languages, education etc.

I got mine by being nominated for residency by my employer for whom I'd been working for 2 years. Took 6 weeks and $7,000. They would have paid it but I left not long after that so I had to pay it back. Ouch. Could have bene a new roofrack, wheel carrier, rooftop tent.....

Yorkie - how long it takes depends on where you live....and which local council.

    Hi Rob
Congratulations on your milestone and I hope the day goes well for you.

    Mrs Ho Har,

I am afraid that on my Mums side of the family, I am a seventh generation Tasmanian , yes there has been a little cross breeding on the way as well.

That means we are now thoroughbred and true to type!!

    Cheers Arthur

    Congratulations and welcome !

You've made the first step, by becoming an Australian.

But if you want to really belong to God's own people you have to become a Queenslander !!!!

    Congrats...

    so now its compulsory to:-

*- listen to Macca every sunday
Australia All Over from Macca on ABC Radio

*- drink any aussie beer you like (except for fosters, that crap is for sending overseas!)

*- warn any overseas visitors about Dropbears and/or hoopsnakes
Drop Bear - Uncyclopedia, the content-free encyclopedia
Hoop Snake - Uncyclopedia, the content-free encyclopedia

*- be proud of the fact we have the deadliest wildlife about! [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNEeq5qGh8I]"Come To Australia" by Scared Weird Little Guys - YouTube[/ame]

*- and when its confirmed that you are "a true aussie bloke" we send you directions so you know which one out of all those out there is "THE BUSH",
where THE BLACK STUMP actually is and of course....other highly sensitive stuff.
