    considering that apart from weight, there is little more holding each section in place other than 16 rag bolts, which would be more to prevent lateral movement when a train goes over it, its not exactly suprising that maybe 25-30 tonnes of machinery travelling at highway speeds did that damage.....

    the bridge simply wasnt designed to take that kind of force applied in that direction
