MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM Series 3 MMMMMMMMMMM![]()
I got back this morning with a SWB s3 I have bought from my old stomping ground, the former owner now deceased used to live out on the opal fields and had set up his own power (wind/solar) and still carted his own water etc.
I knew this vehicle (and his other a lwb) had been "worked on" by him... But I was still surprised with what I got!...
The keys are missing (possibly stolen) but we 'hot wired it" via the coil and a switch we installed inside... I then drove towards home...
About 250+km later it died almost at Port Augusta (I think the coil died!) and I trailered it the rest!.(we were shadowing with a trailer ready)

and leads back to this on the rear diff..
what is this? A diff lock?
a three phase power outlet cover....on the roof....
and the same item, open is a vent!
Under the bonnet - the changed alternator and welder unit!
I cant find anything out about these welders.... but have been told by some that have used them before that theyre quite good!
will try changing coils etc and see if it starts again soon!!
I would like to move the alternator and welder into my series 1 (56/109)
but am unsure if it will work??
Plan at the moment is to start removing extra wiring (which is in 12v and 240v cables)
Its a Nov '77 build and ran quite sweetly sitting between 85-90 on the open road , I even passed a couple cars! The gearbox whines like a ..... well it whines but still ran nIcely, it was a reasonably hot day -in the desert and it hummed!
So , I shall post more photos etc later... but interested to hear any suggestions as to ;
*- the diff "attachement"
*- the welder and alternator
*- the modifications!

I had an old blIke tell me of an electric overdrive that was available for series land rovers.
Could it be one of those?
the ALTER POWER is definately a welder (even says so on it!) and there is a hand throttle to left of clutch pedal in front of 4wd selecters etc.
I was told that even with about 30+ foot of cables they welded nicely but that the revs needed to be "up a bit". (told by a bloke that used them to do repairs to windmills and windmill stands.)
theres even more "unique personality" to see.. Ill slowly post it up.

If I didnt know better I'd think you guys were taking the mickey out of me......
I think I'll remove the welder.. and once Im sure thats all I want I'll sell it on...
(or trade it for a gunbuggy...... anyone?...... hello?...... MMMMM)
but first I want to know about this diff and the welder... (and unravel the mysteries of the wire jungle!)

Well, the roof section is decidedly non-original apparently being made from a 109 hardtop. The colour, if original, identifies it as ex Qld. Forestry Dept.

A very good unique looking jigga though!

appears (from interior and under bonnet) originally was sage green or thereabouts..
personally I like the roof and driving with the rear door held up by the struts and secured was quite good actually!.. it was fairly warm outside and felt comfortable in the old jigga!

unfortunately he has worked on this ones electrics as well!!
factory door pockets?
the cab is full of electrical wires and switches etc, the igniton has been removed and apparently requires a combination of switches to start... we havent found that combo..yet
even has a custom gear stick! stereo and more gauges than the space shuttle!

apparently he filled it with diesel by mistake so it is stationary!!
