				I agree with Bill about that and I have had first hand experience with those motors.
They are a very gutsy motor, but not good for a S3 gearbox. 
I would replace it with a R380 Land Rover box, fitting it with the short bell housing and a matching input shaft. 
Then keeping the diff ratio's the same and use the 1.22 ratio in the bullet proof LT230 transfer box. 
Ashcroft's sell a modification to convert the LT230 to part time 4WD.
