    Comet Lovejoy

On my way back from a job early this morning and had few seconds of "what the heck is that". Popped out of the cloud into a clear dark sky with what looked like a search light piercing through it!

Lucky me saw the Lovejoy Comet http://www.google.com.au/url'sa=t&rct=j&q=lovejoy%20comet&source=web&cd=5&v ed=0CEIQFjAE&url=http%3A%2F%2Fphotoblog.msnbc.msn. com%2F_news%2F2011%2F12%2F21%2F9610341-just-lovely-lovejoy-comet-shot-at-sunrise&ei=7zbyTqu6AY2PiAe37am_AQ&usg=AFQjCNG0ZDl_ 2p4YID0NyQgWUPPIqj-VAA&sig2=KTbe7lRTWWEnAt5UkxH6xg

You were luck to see it at all. Just days ago it passed through the outer sun's atmosphere and against all odds re emerged.

If what you saw looked like a search light, unfortunately it wasn't the comet. The comet is a very diffuse light source. The comet in the video, isn't the bright light, but the tail of the comet can be seen right on the horizon as the sun is rising.

He means it was like a searchlight pointing into the sky. NOT shining at him.
