    Cargo Space FL Vs X5

    Hi All,

I'm going on a driving holiday in the UK later in the year and will be travelling with my wife and two kids...10 & 14.

The car hire company that I'm looking at are offereing a LR Freelander or a BMW X5, in their SUV class. Their website states that the X5 has less cargo space than the freelander, which I find surprising.

I don't have access to both of these vehicles (to put side to side) so have been trying on the fly to do a comparo when walking around Brisbane.

Since I will be driving for over three weeks, it's obviously not just the cargo space that is a consideration. General comfort and space will be a factor too.

Anybody got an opinion on the comparo?

    Cheers,

    Kev.

Well if the X5 is cargo smaller than a Freelander it must be pretty small. I had a loan Freelander and had to fold the rear seats to fit two sets of golf clubs in it - which was a surprise, looks big from outside. Never had any such dramas in my Triumph Estate - that took them easy.
The Freelander is a comfortable drive.

Freelander is beautiful to drive, i think its the closest SUV i've ever driven to feeling sporty, thats compared to a D4 3.0 SDV6, like a little go kart, the X5 is more heavy and lumbering, personally i think the X5 is more of a soccer mum burbs type of car, would tour in it, each to their own i guess

    THANKS

    Freelander it is.

I had a new loaner when my D4 was getting serviced....I liked it a lot, was just worried about the cargo space.

Probably lighter on the gas too....

    Cheers,

    Kev.

Freelander definitely has the more usable space over an X5, it's squarer at the backend. Have friends with both in the UK and the Freelander takes all the gear for 2 small kids (prams etc) whereas the X5 can't, because of the way the tailgate angles at the top. The X5 is also bloody uncomfortable in the back, like all the BMW X range, the suspension's as hard as iron to give them the sporty handling.

Personally I've had a huge laugh punting a loaner Freelander across the roads of North Wales at *cough* mph, the handling is just brilliant for a little 4x4.
