I am planning to go to the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion at Laguna Seca this year and to the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance held not far away. The Monterey Historics are to be held on 17-18-19 August, and the Pebble Beach Concours on 19 August. Now it baffles me why two event organisers whose events would have much the same customer base would overlap like this.
Are there any Aulrovians who have been to these events who could advise me as to whether I should forgo the last day of the races to go to the Concours or vice versa?
Both are on my bucket list. I have US friends who will be competing at Monterey and I am welcome, nay, expected, in their pits. I am on the horns of a dilemma.
I will be 71 by then and, who knows, may not be able to miss one and pick it up next year.

It is the history of the event that results in the proximity. They used to be one event, held on the coast, racing and concours. Then someone hit a pine tree, died and so the races went a few miles inland to a dry lagoon (Laguna Seca) and the concours stayed where it was.
They are both quite mind boggling. But be aware it is not just the two events, there is a whole week of things that you should not miss. Do some web research and then choose what you want to see, and be sure to book accommodation early and convenient. There will be lots of traffic.
The historic races are superb, and you should not miss them. Pebble Beach is only one day and really, you shouldn't miss it either. You will be amazed at the standard of restoration, and who you will see on that field. Jay Leno, the Governator, Seinfeld and many others. Cars that are worth mega Million $$$$$$. there are people who spend their whole lives trying to win at Pebble, and spend millions every year in that quest. Not to be missed.
I know this stuff first hand because one of our cars was invited to be displayed, and we were allowed to go along with the car. At the time, I did not realise what a big deal it is to be invited. We had an amazing time, a once in a lifetime experience.
My wife does a blog of our various travels; her blog of our Pebble Beach experience starts here
Even the countdown is done . . . . « On the road again, where will we end up next I wonder . .
We picked our car up in Seattle, just S. of the Canadian border, and joined a group of collector cars on a rally thru the mountains, redwood forests and places of interest from there southwards to California. Her blog describes the trip, if you want to read any of the posts either click for the next post back or forwards at the top of her post, or find the calendar on the lower right hand side of the page and click on any date that is bold, then choose whatever post interests you. Her blog describes the trip and the Pebble Beach event.
Dont miss either of Laguna Seca or Pebble Beach. You will be smiling for weeks. and
