Yes.
They were pretty capable when lifted a few inches and had gobs of wheel travel.
The worst part was a lack of gearing with the stock 3 speed gearbox.
A T98a gearbox with a 6.something:1 granny first gear fixed that, and it's what dear old Dad installed straight out of one of the full size Jeep trucks.
I have some of Dad's old Super 8 film here somewhere rockhopping out the back of Menai in ours in about '76 and i think there's still footage of an FJ40 that was accompanying us having real trouble and nearly going over on the same steps.
Dad could take it pretty much anywhere my uncle took his modified Series III, although I think Dad got sick of throwing the rear bumper bar in the back when it got ripped off on another sandstone ledge.
