My introduction to 4wding came in about 1971 in one of these when I was very, very young.
It took our family over a lot of Australia for the next ten years.

That big bonnet caused a few heart flutters when climbing, you had to take the next drop on faith.

Dad's had 7.00/16's and was about 3" higher in the suspension though.

Oops, just realised this is a two door.

And this is a 1949 Jeepster.

It pre-dates the Evoque rag top by only six decades. :angel:

If that is as it came from the factory then I reckon that is schmick!, the one Ron had a shot of earlier looks like the Tickford version of a jeep to me :).

If you were going to stuff up an 80" (eg hybrid) then something to look along these lines would be cool!

still nothing beats a gunbuggy for good looking and practical :)

My 1960 CJ 6 which is currently out of rego.
I have owned this vehicle for more than 25 years.
It was well worn and beat up when I purchased it as a teenager.
It is on its third motor ( worn the others past 40 thou) and still on its original transmission.
It has LPG, PTO winch converted to electric due to a overdrive being fitted in the PTO hole.
The soft long travel spring , flexable chassis and 1000kg all up weight makes this brillant off road even with its narrow tyres and no lockers.
The long stroke side valve motor has a very wide power spread and the torque spread is just as wide.
The original front mud guards rusted off the thing , so I had fibreglass ones made.
It is currently in my garage waiting one day for me to sort it out again for rego.

Queensland Alumina (QAL) plant in Gladstone had a fleet of 2wd Jeeps, J20s I think, when I lived there back in the 1970s. Story was that they tried LandRovers earlier but the Caustic fumes or dust in the air around the plant dissolved the alloy body panels.
Anyway, the coolest looking 4wd of all was and still is IMO the 1950s era Dodge Power Wagons.Everything else looks positively effeminate by comparison.

There was an all steel 4wd version of the Willys wagon. Weren't the Tickfords built from aluminium, nails and termite food?

The jeepster looks like its slowly morphing into an Auburn speedster , personally i like the old inter scouts.

I had to do a rear axel oil seal on a 95 Cherokee yesterday what a load of crap half the diff had to come apart to to remove the Axel I really dred getting these things in the workshop and I'm yet to drive a coil sprung jeep that does not wobble all over the road makes me sea sick and ****y pressed steel radius rods and trailing arms that look like there out of a commodore

That's what what I would have gone to the Cape with in '75. Still kicking myself for knocking back that trip, but at the time uni came first :(:(

Fear not Martyn. The chances of this luxo barge actually making it to Bamaga and beyond in '75 is absolutely zero. Aahh..........and the 'lifestyle' of Uni in the '70's, would you really rather have been up the Cape ?
