    Scratched Windscreen Glass

    Hi All,

    When on Fraser Island a while back I got some fine scratching on the passenger's side of the windscreen of my D4, caused by sand getting under the wiper blade.

    I's not bad at all, but I thought that there may be a product on the market that can polish it out.

    LR say.......uuuummmmm......change the windscreen?

    Windscreen O'Brien say that they used to do this stuff ages ago but don't anymore......change the windscreen!?

    I can live with it, it ain't that bad but surely there is a fix that doesn't involve.....uuuuummmm....changing the windscreen!

    I don't know if it'll work, but I've been told in the past that toothpaste can help with scratches on watch faces.
    Or you could........

    Depending on how annoying it is at present, and where... you're going to have to polish them out. Do-able, but tedious, lots of hand-polishing, some machine-work.

    Prepared to spend some time, well, lots of time..and a few dollars.?

    I've done it on a Jap windscreen, many moons ago. Cerium oxide/jewellers rouge, slow buff, lots of mess.

    Or check your yellow pages for specialty glass manufacturers and their suppliers

    I have the same issue - caused by auto wipe on a dry windscreen with a grain of sand on the wiper - result was a big scratch across the bottom of the screen.

    I asked the same question here a while back and took the car to the experts - cannot be fixed as you can feel the scratch it is too deep for polishes etc.

    Repair by replacement is the only option for this type of scratch.

    Doesn't take out scratches - cleans the windscreen well though.

    Yes, toothpaste will only get rid of the fine scratches, which I did on my 101, but the deeper ones wouldn't move. The basic rule of thumb; if you can feel the scratch with your fingernail it's too deep to buff out.
    Try one of the commercial mobs (Obriens etc) and see what they say.

    I agree with Garry, new windscreen is the best option. Have you got windscreen option on your insurance?

    Hi All,

    The scratches don't appear too deep so I'll give toothpaste a go.....I'm assuming with a soft cloth and not my electric toothbrush?
