    Seat re-instatement or approval

A friend-of-a-friend has had the rego knocked back on his Series due to uncertified (DIY) replacement seats.

Does anyone either (a) know someone who can assess and certify the seats (who understands LRs) OR (b) have a spare set of front Series 2/3 seats for sale (or loan)?

    Located in Toowoomba, Qld.

Reply here or PM if preferred.

    Thanks!
    Steve

I would think the most common failure in installing seats ("aftermarket") in
other vehicles is that they need to be installed and fixed to the vehicle securely (eg by a metal frame etc)

I know the originals "slip in" but that wont be adequate with any others as they must comply with current standards being a later fitment.

It also is probably a good time to note that no wooden frame/support will be acceptable to mount the seat to.

Maybe look for the adjustable sliding frames and attach new seat there?

Unfortunately, whether or not the place is LR friendly, they still must comply to a certain standard. You will find there are set rules as to the size of the bolt, the plate must be a certain size and thickness, the plate has to have a welded nut and be held in place by a rivet so it stays put if the seat is removed. Plus the seat can't foul any operational bits like handbrake or gear lever. It needs a mod plate so any authourised inspection station who does mod plates should treat it the same way. Best bet is to go there and ask what is needed to make it spec then do the mods and take it back, should pass. They normally won't charge you to tell you what is required.

Point is then if you change them back your CTP and insurance is as good as gone if you have an accident.

Perhaps people think this was a way of making sure the boys in blue don't come knocking on my door and checking my seats. Sadly, the Series LR IS owned by the friend of a friend. I haven't even seen it: being a true Series fan the owner not only doesn't have internet, he doesn't even have a telephone.

I'll print the responses and hand them to my friend for personal delivery

    Thanks all for the help.

And yes, I get the CTP & Rego, but asked the question as it was put. If I still had my Series I'd lend the seats and advise re blue plate immediately after. Hard to get an unregistered car 2-3 hours away for plating.

LR friendly = not going to automatically tell said Series owner to get some other make.

If I hear the final result I'll post back here.
