    "Some of these comments are a bit mean. They weren't driving in the water - they were driving when it was low tide, on gravel / mud. (3rd picture).
    When their car got stuck in the mud that's when they realized they are in trouble.
    The tide came back in later, submerging the vehicle in water (top 1/2 pictures)."

    More mud than gravel Baz, by the appearance of the guy in picture 3 walking through it.

    may be the hire car companies should charge German and Jap tourists higher hire rates , water car and tourist don't mix up north.

    Probably explains the idiots we get in the hills on the week ends cutting people off on the road making left had turns form the right hand lane, because the GPS tells them TURN LEFT, TURN LEFT,..... TURN LEFT!!!

    Jap tourists ............ doesn't surprise me at all. I came across a hired Landcruiser full of them on the side of the road about 5 km north of Coober Pedy when I was heading up to Alice Springs a few years back. They were also heading to the Alice ........................ and were sure that a Toyota would get them there on one tank of fuel. It didn't.

    Not to mention the fact that they had no food or water with them .............
