tell me its not designer stubble!!

Vikings used to plait their beards and head hair together, front to back, to keep their beards and hair from getting tangled in their axes and swords.

Don't think they considered it unmanly....although I'm not certain if their woman did the plaitting...LOL!!! Maybe that's the difference

    Rick, where are the pics???????

I'm off to do a Bourke and Wills trip, tracing their route as much as possible later this year, I am going to try and grow a bit more of mine to make it look like a real 1800's explorers beard

Plaits aren't all bad. Vikings and Gimli both pull them off very well. Sadly mine will never get quite long enough for that.

    And that's where it began.

I mentioned this to a mate who has got me interested in the traditional safety razor (razor blades are pretty cheap too so ongoing costs are low).

It's not just about having a nice razor though, it's really all about ritual.

In our excessively busy modern world everyone is in a rush and shaving has become something we are conditioned to think must be done quickly. Thus the proliferation of disposable multi blade shavers and electric shavers of various kinds.

But take a step back and assess your life. Can you REALLY not spare those extra 10 minutes for a decent enjoyable shave? If you say no then I call "bullpoo" and urge you to get over yourself.

I've been frequenting the "badger and blade" forum and I can tell you that it's more than just shaving - it could easily become and obsession and a start of a collection of razors.

Where was I? Oh yes, ritual.

Anyway - getting back to me personally I bit the bullet and bought some gear.

After initially spending a good few hours trolling Amazon for the things I wanted and filling my cart, when I went to check out it said most of the items they won't ship to Australia ! I'm getting sick of that attitude!

Anyway I then went to theshaveshed.com.au and found their website loaded with good products, at reasonable prices (indeed good prices, for an Australian based business) and the site is very user friendly.

    I've bought
1 x Chrome Brush and Razor Stand
1 x Proraso Shaving Cream: Eucalyptus & Menthol 150mL Tube
1 x Frank Shaving Pure Badger Shaving Brush
    1 x Merkur HD Heavy Duty 34C
    1 x Proraso Pre & Post Shaving Cream: Eucalyptus & Menthol 100mL
    1 x 55 blade Sampler Pack
1 x Col. Conk Styptic Pencil

with postage comes to a tick under $160 which was not too far off the overseas prices in any event.

I am sure you can get just as good of a shave with other or cheaper products but for me there's that element of ritual involved and I know I'm going to enjoy this kit.

Experimenting with razor blades as to which one is best.. a bit like reloading for rifles !

Also the ones I don;t want from the sample packs I can probably sell to desperate emos !

So.... are you a safety razor user. or even a straight razor (aka cut throat)?

If not, go away this thread is not for you ! These droids are none of your concern.

    If so, do share.
Well, I guess we know two blokes who won't be joining the bearded club

I got onto the above site and bought bucket loads of shave gear also
