You can get chipboard with laminate/melamine on it, much stronger than MDF, which sags under it's own weight, regards Frank.
Do we have any cabinet makers amongst us? I am fitting a new fridge to my caravan and I need a sheet of panel. This is a sheet of MDF which has some sort of coating to make it look like solid timber.
My question is, Do cabinet makers do this in house or do they buy it in? Is there a way that I can do it myself.
Dave.

looks like tasmanian myrtle , take a door in to your local kitchen place , they will match it up . comes in 8x4 sheets
Yes, it is a veneer coated board, mdf or chipboard. Comes in sheets, usually 2400 x 1200. It will need to be cut to size, an edge fitted, possibly ironed on so you will need to buy the edging and then it will need to be stained or glossed to match your existing finish.
For a one off job I would get accurate measurements of what you need as well as a sample of the finished colour you need and take it to a good cabinet maker. It will probably cost less and you will end up with a better job that way. Note that if the existing panelling has any type of clear coating on it then it will have darkened with age so a cabinet maker will need to get a good polisher to match the colour accurately.
Mr Plywood has this sort off stuff off the shelf, also unfinished veneer so you can stain/clear coat it to match the age. They can cut to size and edge as well while you wait.
Go to a place where they cut board. Thats where the kitchen blokes go. Take accurate measurements and colour sample as previously mentioned. Check them on whether dimensions include edging or not. Edging is either 1 or 2 mm. They will also cut out for hinges, shelf pin holes etc. Ask, They're usually very helpful.
Don.
The stuff used in campers appears to be a hollow core panel to save weight. It has, I believe, a honeycomb structure inside like household interior doors.
Probably something like this: Polycore Composites - Polycore Australia - Polycore Honeycomb
