thanks for posting that grom, that shovel is a beauty alright....
I'd really enjoy being there - their website has future rally dates - I'll have to see if I can work one in![]()
The Lake Goldsmith Rally is on next weekend for those of you interested in steam/tractors etc.
If you haven't been before it's one of the largest steam events in Australia and has a fantastic turnout. If you are a member it seems that you can build a big shed on the site (38 acres), some of the sheds are basic some are out of this world.....
I've attached a couple of pictures from 2010.

They have a pair of ploughing engines based there (from memory one is on loan from the Melbourne museum). I saw them demonstrate steam ploughing by ploughing up the middle of the rally arena.
The steam shovel is great to watch, a guy at the front pulling the levers and another at the back shovelling coal into the boiler .....
But the sheds, did I mention the sheds....
Visit and you will understand 'shed envy'

Been going off and on for a number of years. Hope to make ot sometime next weekend. Can highly recommend it. They've done a fantastic job since it was flooded. Most of the sheds were about 5-7 foot under I think.

It is a very interesting event. It is an experience spending the day wandering around the site. I might pop up there next weekend. It's not far.
SO... how did it go ???
Has anybody got any pics from the weekend ?![]()
Yep. I'll put up some pics in a few days time (probably Tuesday night).
There was an Ex-Army SIII there and a Ford Blitz.
Here ya go!

As you can see, I had more interest in the vehicles than the steam.
Thanks Mick - impressive collection of pics - those older trucks look good - I'll enjoy going through them in detail....
I'll just have to try and get there next time
