so whats the deal with this fuel consumption?

first off, I'm not complaining I just don't get it.

Every time I fill the LPG tank I get 320 to 325/8-ish but under 330, yes it is that consistent. I drive to from work, same time, days, speeds, load etc

anyhow, last time I filled up I got 350 with gas left, (makes an odd noise thats how i know its running out).

    The only things different were:

    1. filled at different servo
    2. I blew the crap out of my air filter box, now held together with tape, so its most likely sucking more air than usual
    3. its been colder and rained more than usual
    4. It was my sons 5th birthday this week

So what would have make the 30ks difference?

    1. 2. 3. could all have a bearing on extra milage.

    1. Possibly a different mix of LPG. More or less butane

    2. Allowed your motor to breath easier. Cleaner air , less restriction = more power etc

    3. Colder air means = densior air = more power . you dont have to put your foot down as much.

perhaps LPG has different blends of bit and pieces from different suppliers.

I met a guy who worked for BP. And this relates to diesel, but he said I'd probably go further on Caltex than BP, but BP would burn cleaner. The Caltex was denser with a bit more oil in it. He was only talking maybe 20klm over a tank.

Your LPG mixture is determined by the total vacuum generated by ALL the components from the mixer head to the air cleaner inlet. Therefore a lower restriction air box will cause leaner mixtures. My conclusion is that it was running too rich overall before the Big Bang. Fix the box or replace it with an early steel cylinder cleaner. Set your plug gaps to 0.7mm, your idle timing to 10 degrees BTDC minimum, and then find the main mixture adjuster and have a bit of a play. Find the minimum setting that allows nearest to full power.

Some lpg is light, and some is heavy. They can't guarrantee the butane/propane mix in the lpg. It's good when you get a heavy batch and crap when you get an extra light batch. Most of the time you just get normal

I used to get varying fuel consumption in the old Falcon I had on LPG. I certainly found keeping a fresh, clean air filter made a difference.

So long as its not a pod filter. They aren't good to MAFs. Get an early steel air filter can and use paper filters. Then TUNE IT UP properly!

My idea didnt work too great so took your advice and fitted a steel filter box and new plenum/maf hoses. Runs much better but will have to wait and see how it goes with fuel usage.
