You are incorrect. If one has no intention of actively off-roading in the league of say a LC/LR/Patrol, then a new FL2 is an incredibly comfortable, 40MPG, decent vehicle to own that won't get bogged at the MCG carpark in winter.Quote:

As mentioned in the last post - you are incorrect. The Freelander II is a very good vehicle and doesn't suffer any of the issues the F I did. Drives very well, stops even better, and if you only want a soft roader, does the job very nicely. We almost bought one, but dickhead me let SWMBO drive a Range Rover... so that was that...:pQuote:

But yes i disagree that Freelander is a pile of junk, they're really good at what they are designed to do (my Disco 1 which came from my aunty was replaced with an FL2 aswell) sure the old ones were pretty crap, but the design principle was all there, just badly executed. Thank you all for the update. My only experience(s) have been with FL1 petrols and I have not been very impressed.
SWMBO was considering 'updating' the D2a and liked the look of the FL2 and Suzuki Grand Vitara (same dealer) but I warned her off the FL. Like Wills parents we no longer need the D2a for 'real' off road work, hasn't been off road for 3 years.
All the best for whichever decision you make Will, but owning two cars can be an expensive proposition. Try not to put yourself in a position where you can afford to own 2 vehicles but don't have enough cash left over to get either to the state you want them. Can be very frustrating. Would you be better off to park up the D1 for later or to sell it and put the money towards getting the D2 to where you want it ? The old head vs. heart argument.

Yeah when i was thinking with my heart i wanted to keep both, but it's not really financially viable for someone who will be a uni student next year, i'll just have to sell the D1 and get a small project or something once the dune buggy is finished, that way i can actually buy the D2 aqnd have some money left over to save for a house, and make the D2 into the car i want, as it will inevitable get driven on the highway a lot going to uni. We'll see how things pan out, but it looks like the D1 will have to go, plus with 2 landies you have twice the chance of having to do a complete rebuild LOL. I'll strip the goodies off it though and put it back to stock so i can use the parts on either the D2 or other projects.

As a student it would certainly be better to only have one vehicle draining your money.
The other option would be to keep the D1, forget about a D2 and pocket your money.
haha, yeah definietely only need 1 car on the road, but if i go to wollongong uni, i want the td5 as the tdi is a slug on the highway and driving up mount ousley every day would get pretty old, not to mention the better fuel economy of the td5, i'd always planned to buy it and the tdi was more of a stop-gap to fill the space between me getting my licence and mum getting a new car, just so happen s that thing grew on me and i became attached to it, might need to do a blue mountains trip before i sell it though lol
