Credit card hacked
One of my credit cards was used in the UK last week to buy stuff online. Two transactions of a coupla hundred $ after which the NAB stopped the card (and they will refund). First I knew was a phone call from the NAB, good to know they are vigilant about this sort of thing, especially as it has a $12k limit!
Interestingly I have never used that card in the UK, even for online purchases, I have another one for that. Love to know how they got the details.

Had the same problem buying some parts. The company denied any knowledge when I contacted them even though the fraudulent tranaction occurred with in hours of their transaction and it was the only time the card had been used in 2 weeks.
In my case it showed up as a $1,200 Paypal transaction and the bank backed me all the way. Having said that, I buy online from overseas a fair bit and have never had a problem before this.

We often like to rubbish the big banks (and often for good reason), but I would like to praise for NAB their vigilance too. I received a new card in the mail and the next day withdrew $1000 (the daily limit) from an ATM without a thought. NAB called me within 5 minutes to check that it was actually me making the withdrawal. It gave me a new faith in their systems.

Skimmers send the details overseas to make fake cards to be used in other countries. That's why the banks will stop a card if its used in different countries on the same day, as happened to me once, and good on the NAB I say.

Yeah the banks occasionally do something nice for a change
Commonwealth rang me last year while I was on holiday in NZ, asking if I'd made a transaction in the US. Turns out someone had made a purchase at an Apple/Mac store. First I knew was the card got refused at a few places and then the bank rang me about half an hour later telling me they'd cancelled it. Luckily it was the last day of the holiday otherwise it could have been a bit of a pain!
