    Anyone else heard this?
Not quite correct. BP refinery (QLD) in the late 90's upgraded its refinery to produce diesel with lower aromatics and higher cetane number. So in effect it was "better" diesel.

Now aromatics cause rubber and seals to swell. If you run an engine from new on diesel with one level of aromatics, then switch to diesel with lower levels of aromatics, then the seals try and shrink, but are too old/stiff/brittle to do so.

So it does not "destroy" seals. It may instead make old crappy seals more likely to leak.

I was myself thinking it may have been some placebo effect aswell. But the extra km's were not there on the Vortex or Stock Diesel. I have never been a huge believer in all these hyped products, say the least for crap like Hilclone and Magnests.

But she is pulling better and the economy is my my recording better.

I didn't get into the exact details of it - it was something about the new deisels being to clean and not compatible with the old seals. MR Automotive asked if I had been using BP Deisel which I had and they suggested not to as they have had quite a few injector pumps requiring rebuilds where the vehicle owners had been using the bp deisel. Mentioned it to someone else (non landrover) and they had had a similar experience. Regardless its an expensive exercise so I no longer use bp deisel. I have no idea which deisel had been run in the car prior to my ownership.

    Just be aware with Bio...

    From BP site:

What are some of the differences of BP Diesel with up to 5% biodiesel compared to conventional mineral diesel?
Energy content is about 0.5% lower than standard diesel as such there could be a minor increase in fuel consumption but this would not be noticeable under normal operations.

ALL diesel sold in AU can have up to 5% bio without labelling.

Also - everyone should be aware that if you are in a state without a BP refinery, then chances are you are not buying BP fuel - even at BP servos! The same goes for other refineries.

Back when I had brown hair (and more of it..) my v-8 Holden ran better/smooother on one particular brand with its Super-Dooper Additives, but gave more ooomph and mpg on another. Caltex with CX-3 was one... can't be sure of the other
    - Allegedly the same base petrol, but differant additives.

Differance was'nt much, but consistant. I would imagine additives would have a similar effect diesel, especially if the cetane is differant.

The biodiesel I used to brew gave a quieter running, the same mpg, torque-band that extended lower, but less top RPM / top speed. Speed limits on the open road were'nt as easy to exceed as with 'normal' diesel...

Sorry Josh, somebody's telling you porkies. Matilda, now owned by Newman Fuels of Currumbin Qld, resell Shell fuels. Before the sale to Newmans Matilda resold BP.
BP reduced the sulpher in diesel fuel in the '90s, causing some problems with older seals. BP did reimburse many people who experienced problems caused by the change.
Just because you are fueling from a particular branded bowser, does not mean that is the brand you are getting. All major fuel companies are in bed with each other, with contra supply deals.
Independant outlets have various agreements with the majors, buying in bulk from whom ever has the lowest Terminal Gate Price on the day.
A large percentage of our fuel is refined in Singapore, shipped to this country then discharged to multiple terminals from the same ship.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
