I know that this topic has been posted before and more likley debated. But now I am on my second tank of BP Ultimate Diesel, as the servo I use only has it now, and I am finding that my D2 is getting a bit more not huge fuel economy.
This could be a number of factors, but my driving has not changed nor where I am driving.
Has anyone else had any goo/bad experiences from using BP or Caltex premium diesels?

I'm experiencing exactly the same as what your describing. I've always used BP Ultimate in my 300tdi and a few weeks back thought id give Caltex a go. Sure enough no where near as good a fuel economy.
Similar driving conditions on both occasions.

A few weeks back I read that BT fuel gives better economy in an old AULRO thread. In fact one comment in that thread indicated up to 100kms per tank more!! Next tank will definitely be BP for me as I intend on trying out this theory too. But your comments only support everything else I've read so far!! And that is that BP diesel is better!
Will report back with findings, although I've wondered whether location around Australia makes a difference to what fuel you get.. ?? I see you're both in QLD? I'm in Melbourne metro.

In these sort of tests, you (the driver) know the fuel has been changed, so may subconciously adjust your driving (placebo effect). The only way to measure this properly, would be to have someone else fill the tank for you, and not tell you which brand they had filled it with.
That said, higher cetane number and/or higher energy fuel should give better performance/economy.

my 110 300tdi likes caltex vortex diesel best, extra k's far outweigh the couple of cents / litre more. Some caltex (wooolworths) sell standard diesel ,u gotta make sure it's vortex
my fuel gauge stopped a while back , so I'm very conscious of km's travelled as I use my odometer as my fuel gauge

I was advised not to use BP deisel in my 300tdi as it destroys the seals in the older injector pump. Pitty they told me this after it had started leaking and needed replacing. This is from a well known LR service centre.
Anyone else heard this?

Also keep in mind premium diesel burns hotter. It will increase your exhaust gas temp by around 50 deg C.

do you mean BP premium or BP standard diesel?
any chance you could ask the 'well known LR service centre' why the diesel destroys the seals?

Yeah, my first thoughts are that of a skeptic as well.
But then if there's enough variation in fuel quality to change economy, I guess this is feasible.So many questions, so few QUALIFIED answers!
