xxxx gold has never been an Ale as it owes it heritage to the old Castlemaine Perkins Diet Lager and has always been different to the xxxx Bitter ale, the only thing that connects the two is clever marketing.
Am I the only one who will fess up. I enjoy XXXX Gold. I won't say it's the best beer out there, but it's not bad and it would be my beer of choice 95% of the time.
Some of you appear quite snobbish. By all means drink your choice, but when my beer choice has been named most popular in the country it can't be that bad.

XXXX Bitter has always been a lager first brewed by a Danish brewer from Carlsberg using a Carlsberg yeast. It just happened to be called "ale".
My late father-in-law always referred to any Carlton beer as Surfside Sex.
VB has no taste to avoid offending its customers who are likewise.

Meh call me a beer fairy!
I drink XXXX, VB, Carlton, Tooheys, Coronas & Hahn on a regular basis. Love them all.
Actually I dont mind most beers, except Carlton Cold, that taste like a good beer with 40% more water added to itHahn Lights are also horrible.
As far as I am concerned our standard yobo beers taste pretty darn good!
Dammit! Now I am thirsty. Lucky there is some XXXX gold in the work fridge eh![]()
I rule!!!
2.4" of Pure FURY!!!
Yeah................... old Perkins sump oil. Like XXXX good for painting fence posts and thats all.
Me, I'm cheap and buy whatever CUB product is on special at 2 for $76 at Woolys/Safeway/Coles.
Though as a dark horse I'll nominate Blue Tongue, a very nice lager, don't know who makes it, best of all it's bought by my boys.I reckon as a dad I'm probably about 4,265 slabs behind by now so am doing a bit of catching up.
PS. Am still looking for a low carb beer that actually tastes like beer.

We in Qld were fortunate not to be inflicted with certain interstate beers, until the great brewery strike of the Bjelke years. It was then truckloads of Yarra river sludge and Sth. Aust. mud made their way north. It was only the fact Qld makes Bundy rum that prevented a generation of Qlders. from taking the pledge. It was no surprise, either, that given the choice of Vic. & Sth. Aust. beer, home brewing took off up here.Bob
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food
A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
It's good to see that we are using primary source peer reviewed journals for our evidence!
I think I'll pop over to Wikipedia and edit the VB section to say that it is made from recycled sewage water which gives it the golden colour!
BTW I just visited Wikipedia's VB page, which had already been edited, but not with my recycled water comment!
