I'm travelling out of William Ck not up the Oodnadatta Track nor the Birdsville Track but basically north through unknown roads and tracks up towards the French Line/QAA then east to Birdsville, then I might head almost northeast till I get to Emerald.
Last August it had a very large puddle on the Eastern side. Here's a pic....

I was there about a year ago when there was a puddle like that, but there was a detour around it. Probably best to try and contact the Birdsville police or pub for up to date info.

I wanted to emulate Reg Sprigg's south north crossing, starting from the northeast side of Lake Eyre, but all of the Simpson in South Australia which lies south of the well used west east tracks is out of bounds.
There were a good number of tracks made in that area by the oil explorers.
Have you got a Desert Parks Pass? You will need one.
