In an Engel, the thermostat bulb, which I guess you are talking about, sits on the back wall of the fridge under a screw on cover ( 1 screw in my 2000), and passes through a screwed on cover which also covers the entry of the cooling pipes.

Both the thermostat and the whole cooling unit can be changed by undoing 3 or 4 screws, as well as the outer shell which is held by 8 or so screws.

The thermistor on the early production fridges was sandwiched between the evaporator and case .... Service with an angle grinder.

They changed the design to a replaceable thermistor about 100 units after mine. Apparently they passed on the Danfoss thermistor due to known issues, and designed their own ..... .?

UPDATE - ARB Newcastle conceeded over the phone that the fridge was a dud, and they would send me out a new straight away ...

... that was a week ago and I'm still waiting!

Rang them yesterday (Saturday) and got some lame-o excuse about the storeman ... ..... "Monday, we'll send one Monday .... "

    Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

As far as customer service goes, they just lost a heap of brownie point in my eyes.

I have a 75ltr Autofridge and have been beating the hell out of it for over 18years without a hitch, best fridge ever.

I’m not saying the ARB ones aren’t any good , but the Autofridge is Aussie made and completely serviceable.
I’ve known the owner of Autofridge for many years ,hes a great bloke and looks after his customers very well .

Do you have the serial number of when they changed the design so it is serviceable? Just want to check mine.

No, sorry I don't ... But I'll check the original receipt (I think I know where it is) .... Mine was approx' 100 units before the change.

Sooooo .... after many phone calls, and excuses, the 2nd replacement fridge arrived yesterday. Plugged it in 240v, and it all works as it's supposed to .... Yay!

It's now had its new cover fitted, has been put back into the drop slide, and has been running on 12v in the back of the disco for the last 24hrs.

    Cold beer for Belanglo !
