Got a good look at my first trans-critical CO2 supermarket installation today, just being commissioned. We'll be providing emergency service back up.
Medium temp coils are fully flooded, superheat varies between 0 & 2k!!!
And up to 90bar on the high side???!!!
Discharge lines and manifold out of the MT Rack is stainless, not copper.
Oh lordy!![]()

Geez,i dunno if an old dog wants to learn new tricks
i am hoping 404a,134a,22,407c,410,r32 will see me out
i was actually pleased with myself the other day, rewired an old 9Kw R22 split to suit a Hyper Eng soft start, love job as well.
Haven't done one for years
An it went like it was new.
On another subject, anyone seen the new model Mitsy Electric splits?
They look like those first Daikins that had wall controllers, box shaped.
I don't think it will be long before they are back to a rounded shape.
What were they thinking?
Orgasm's aside, there is some serious stuff involved with these systems! It involves a whole new way of thinking about what you can and cannot do!
CO2 as a Refrigerant — Introduction to Transcritical Operation - Climate Conversations
So how is WH&S working at over 1000 PSI ?
Commissioning and setting up the HP cut outs would be fun
I can see the apprentice "i just destroyed my new HP gauge, just gotta duck down to the wholesalers to grab another"![]()
Nor quite Desmond, it scares the begeezuz out of me!
The lists of 'dont's' is long!
Including do not isolate anything, do not adjust a setting under any circumstance.
Do not add refrigerant (CO2) after a gas leak as it's a critical charge, it's a specific charging sequence as this System has in effect two vessels (receivers) and liquid levels are indeed critical to operation, and on it goes.
What I'm used to is a CO2 cascade, R134a on the medium temp side, CO2 low temp with a heat exchanger between them.
Having a full trans-critical setup is interesting!
There is no condenser, its a gas cooler. I called it a de-superheater as I reckon that describes it more accurately.
And it incorporates old school features, it has a fully computerised fogger/water spray setup to keep temps under control on the hot gas cooler above 30°!
