I went back for a year & did R2 simply because I felt I had to & passed with credits. Never had a Credit in moi life before. It was a piece of **** because I was now familiar with the Work, Equipment & happened to be a few years older etc.

    What a crock of ****.

So the representative from the governing body told me today that I can’t get the plumbing ticket as I did not learn about mechanical plumbing when I did my tech. But the young Fridgie guys today learn all about it at college,he said.

So I said, after 40 yrs of working on chilled and condenser water systems, and commissioning and maintaining some of the biggest systems in the state at the time, the young blokes know more about mechanical plumbing than me?

FFS I can’t believe the crap I am hearing.

So he is going to look into it and call me back.

Seems the license for the company is $3K

Plus another $600 for the company nominee or supervisor, plus $500 for me to have a Refrigeration and AC mechanical services occupational ticket(after 1/1/21,),including hopefully a plumbing ticket .Must have that if I ever pick up a spanner, were his words.

So after 40 yrs of experience I may have to go back to school to learn what I already know.

And,this bloke hasn’t mentioned it,but a mate had to do all this crap and a management course, after running his show for 27 yrs.FFS,I don’t wanna have to do that as well.....

It all shows again how the Govt are completely out of touch of the real world, and have no idea WTF they are doing. And as they are doing such a fantastic job we have to pay them some rediculous sum of money just for a ticket, for work my company and many others have been doing for many, many years, with no issues at all.

Hmm,maybe I should have put this in the grumpy old buggas thread

But not all correct Paul. Bugger is spelt as is < not buggas.

Best you know this now in case it forms part of your written examination.

You don't want to go through all that for $500 & fail.

NB.Be bloody careful being a Plumber.

My old boss had a saying, "If you want to **** something up, give it to a Plumber to do". A man of Wisdom.

I can. I can't legally buy refrigerant because I was living overseas when they introduced Arctick and I returned a few months after the "grandfather" period where I could have applied for a license based on experience.

I can't replace a GPO because whilst I can design and specify electrical installations I can't actually legally do up a screw.

You can blame cowboys for polluting the pool, but when I approached the minister regarding a refrigerant handling license the reply I got was "They have a powerful union. You are welcome to do a 4 year apprenticeship".

One day they'll tell me I need a degree and license to be able to fart as apparently it's a greenhouse gas.

So put in for the Mechanical Services Plumbing ticket, for the cost of $900 for an application fee.If I get rejected, it will be off to plumbing school.
So that's $900 just to apply for a ticket for the work I have been doing for the last 40yrs
Then once I get it, gotta pay the balance of $2100 for the ticket, total of $3000 for the year

If that's not daylight robbery's don't know WTF is.

Might come in handy, played around with some heat pump hot water systems today.Never worked on one before.
Surprisingly,an old dog can sometimes learn new tricks.

So at this site they had 10 out of 12 not going. When we had finished, they had 8 not working so that's an improvement.
    The others need parts,capaciters,PCB's,and compressors.
They are back ups for the gas hot water systems. The gas ones trip out each time the power goes off or if there is a fire alarm, then have to be manually re set.
So the Heat pumps have been added to take over when the gas ones fail. They are around 10yrs old.

Quite large commercial systems, run on R134a,use a scroll Mitsy compressor with R407C stamped on it,liquid injection, de ice, etc.

Spoke to the boss yesterday re the changing license situation in Qld and he didn't seem concerned.
"It's not like a plumber can work on a chiller..."

BTW we're seriously under the pump atm right across all branches.
All restrictions on OT lifted, Saturday work scheduled in for non-on call staff.

I hope it flows on to the rest of the working community.
