    Bathurst Statistics

For those who watched the whole race on channel 7 yesterday. The race went for six hours and sixteen minutes. During this time you would have sat through twenty six ad breaks for a total of one hour and thirty five minutes.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

I also recorded it. I then watched it in delay so that I could **** the ads off. Whilst watching though, I chaptered the ads. This is how I was easily able to calculate how many and how long.

The only race I have watched from start to finish was the 1979 race.

Who remembers what was special about that one?

I believe that it was a world-first and is another area where the technology has improved out of sight.

Those who were not around to see that historic moment might be interested in this clip.

Not a bad effort for a car that usually won its class, including in this year. In those days the cars were a lot closer to what mum used to use to drop the kids off to school.

Only if mum was one of the few who bought one of 500 the race spec models that were required for the Class A Bathurst cars to be eligible to race as production cars.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

    That's true.

I believe that was one of the reasons the race rules were changed. 500 people were able to buy cars designed specifically to win the race or their class, then register and drive them on public roads.

Wasn't there a Cortina with a close ratio gearbox that had first gear about where second gear would usually be? Imagine driving that in city traffic!
