Maybe if Campbell Newman's government inherited some money instead of financial holes deeper than all the tunnels put together there wouldn't need to be any tolls.....LOL!!!

$100M+/day in interest, that's what this government inherited. I don't give a damn whether you like Campbell Newman or Johnny Blocks as the leader of the government.....but what the hell do you do with a debt like that?

Previous government should be behind bars.....

    Rant over.....LOL!!!

Do what Wayne Swan does, call the debt something else like tubular transport subtractive investment offsets and move the reporting periods. Institute a tax that raises no money and costs you different money in compensation then take away the number you first thought of and everything will come out with a negative surplus and be O.K.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

If you believe those figures, boy have I got a deal for you... just got my hands on a prototype Hiclone 2.0. This one actually converts exhaust gas back into fuel. Unfortunately, I live in the CBD, so it is with regret that I've decided to part with it. I am looking for someone special, someone worthy of bestowing this gift upon... for a nominal fee of course.

I agree, I probably can afford it but just opposed to $4+. At $2 a trip I used them all the time.
I always get a bit of google when I eventually do use one, they are like a ghost town inside and I think every one must be at the coffee shop.

Choose a location about 50Km from the CBD and chose the fastest route then calculate the toll!

In Sydney from Richmond Road to Hyde park (M7/M2/LCT/HT) will cost a car $16.21 each way or anything else $30.16. (each way.)

Or Wallgrove Road to Macquarie Street (M7/M5/ED) in a car $17.05 or $26.95 other vehicles. (each way)

And they may not even be that fast.
I have a deep seated aversion to paying tolls. When I visit my family in Sydney I manage to avoid all tolls except the Harbour Bridge. My son lives in Wollstonecraft near North Sydney station and it is somewhat inconvenient to avoid the Bridge toll by going around over Gladesville Bridge.

People can whine all they like but, for me, the Clem 7 is great. I mean c'mon...15 mins from the P.A. to Stafford Rd & then 25-35 mins to home at Dayboro. Worth $5 in fuel probably! In saying this I probably only use it 1/2 dozen times a year.

I see these tunnels as just another waste of money that could have been spent better some where else.

By the way even Clive Palmer is calling the Newman government to account over lying about the amount of debt with a quote like 'These books have been cooked by the biggest crooks that have ever occupied office in the state of Queensland,'

Sky News: Newman govt has lied about debt-Palmer

The number was actually higher (I rounded off) and I saw it on an internal memo when I did some consultancy work for the QLD Government. I'm sure the figures have been 'adjusted' in some way...that's what politicians do but it illicited very little in the way of immediate fight-back from the opposition.

I suspect both sides have something to hide....that's politics. Newman will paint the worst picture possible but the 'now' opposition don't want too much digging going on either (and I don't mean tunnels LOL).

However the solid reality is....QLD is in financial hurt and would only have got worse. Without the resources we have we'd be another Greece.

I'm not wading into the Campbell Newman or 'his' tunnels debate was just pointing out the financial reality. There wasn't a landslide victory at the polls just cause people felt like a change.

Let's give him enough rope and see what he does.....hang himself or otherwise (figuratively speaking).

On the tunnels (sort of) briefly...in the 80's it took minutes to get around or through Brisbane. Signs of rapid growth were showing even then and nobody did a thing about any serious future planning. Now it's a mess with housing everywhere and will take expensive fixes regardless of whether it's tunnels, etc.

As for Clive Palmer....I'm all for weeding out injustice etc and I don't care which party or individual is in power when that happens but I'm a little concerned that this is a guy trying to push his own barrow. Bullying of politicians just shouldn't be tolerated, it's as bad as bribery in my book. Not sure if this is the case, just making a point.

    IMHO.

Oh btw....how much do you want for it?

    Cheers,

    Kev.

The failing with a lot of these large projects is at feasibility stage - quite often the human factor is not played up enough - people's willingness to pay or willingness to add another 10 minutes to the journey to avoid the tolls is not considered. This leaves the business case with a rather large hole in it and inevitable losses will occur when it starts operation.....

It all depends on time if day as well. My usual 6.30am run through the valley flows well so no need to make time up. If I'm running late for a quote or something I use the tunnels, other wise it's just a planning thing.

just because the makers says its quicker doesn't always add up. I find if I use the tolled Logan motor way to go the Gold Coast it takes the same time as going via Mt Gravatt and the M1. But again depends on time of day.
