BBC: Land Rover driven through floods - Irresponsible

Drove down the Gregory development road, in November, 2010, just as the big wet came on. From the Belayndo crossing on, it was flooded for about 30 km's. This was my first time up north in my first land rover,[ driven other vehicles in the area] a D2, 1999. No mods, no cabin CDL, the only way we knew we were on the road was keeping in the middle of the tops of the white side posts. At first I was ****ting myself, but after a while, It was just so easy. I just wish I was with those young fellas in England, irresponsible? safe as houses, Bob

It's OK for you, you were in the Navy. :p

We always used to head to the fords during rains to see how deep they had got and whether they were at a level to be interesting to drive :)

During the floods back in '06 & '07 in the UK I had to drive a lot of flooded roads to get back from my detached duty, sometimes they were closed for 3ft of water, sometimes for 1ft.

The police have to close urban roads to cars based on urban vehicles. I'm unaware that going past a road closed sign is technically illegal, they are temporary, unattended and not enforced....

Good on him, no different than going out on a sunny day for a drive on your motorbike IMHO.

Damned defender intake though, I always meant to make a shutter to close off the wing intake for deep wading as it just comes straight through, only tip is to turn it to floor outlet so the water doesn't hang around and get up behind the dash display.
