I think making only subscribers being able to change the wiki stuff is a good idea because what would stop any troll from another brand that occasionally likes to come in and stir things up change stuff in there...

    Thread Help

"Well, again here I stand looking over the great unknown" . . . . well not really but I am mystified why this web site is so hard to use when a person is not computer literate.

I don't really have much of a problem getting around Excel, love surfing for jokes and interesting photos - got a FEW - but have great difficulty when I log on here. (She is the brains on computers I'm the dumb one) It seems that I can't just log on, hit one button (marked "POST NEW MESSAGE"), select where I would like it to be posted, write the message, click ok and that should be it.

I am at present looking at LARGE green lettering that I have to "resize", change the "colour" and then "POST NEW ARTICLE".

Now I am not dumb, maybe stuck in my ways and a bit, lazy, but it seems to me that I am doing "stuff" that should be preset at the other end. Yeh yeh I know "green" is the Landrover colour but my D2 is BLUE, so why isn't the letter colour set to match my D2.

I tried to download "iespell" but the computer told me to bugger off as it was DANGEROUS and deleted it, is this so or is this the settings on my computer, just tried again on (the minister for finance and war) computer and got the same result.

I replied to a message "American Civil War 2013" thinking that that was all, but seems not, have had a non stop dowloading of emails every time that somebody else replies . . . is this necessary and how do I stop it from happening, I just made a comment not a commitment to overwork my internet supplier.

Overall I think the site is great, information is great, enjoy looking around and have communicated with some people on here and been helped a lot..

What can I say about last nights "STOUSH" over who has the right to say "what" goes on here and the "buying the site for 35K" and "closing the site down". GENTLEMAN . . . . get a life, pick up the phone and shout at each other down the mouth piece . . . we don't need it and it wasn't very professional.

    Suggestion:
They say "a picture is worth a thousand words", well . . . why can't the uploaded pictures be located in an "AREA" where they can be easily be retreived as in a photo album and not have to "surf" endless pages looking for photos.

    Suggestion:
I /we would like to see an area where photo's and description of work done by members in "ADDING" accessories to their vehicle. I don't mean the USUAL run of he mill bits and pieces, but (for an example) things like "built in cupboards" or "home made overhead console's" or "how and where member "X" mounted his/her air compressor".

This would be the most benifical thing that I think the club could achieve.

To add to that, the basic subscription fee is next to nothing for a whole year.....especially for the info you get in return and the money saved in paying others to find solutions to LR woes.
Why not allow reading for free, but to contribute, or ask questions etc, you have to be a subscriber.....in effect, read only unless you pay. Surly access to this sort of help is worth a few lousy dollars for an annual fee?
I'm a subscriber, I've put my money where my mouth is, why not all you non subscribers?

Edit: If that's not ok, how about limiting the amount of posts per day/month whatever, or a trial period?

    Just a thought

    Cheers all.

Going way off track just for a minute (my excuse is that someone else started it), I thought the Pirate Party Australia was a joke involving blokes swanning about going "Har har!", but it turns out its a real party, so there you go, you learn something new every day. I think I like what they say they stand for:
    About Us

The Pirate Party is a party based around the core tenets of freedom of information and culture, civil and digital liberties, and governmental transparency.
    Pirate Party Australia

However, as politics is banned here, I'll say no more except that we should not assume its a joke to be called a 'pirate'.

Because most members host their photo's off site! if the photos were located in an album somewhere else and not in the post how would some of the photos make any sense?....this is how I have read your comment it maybe that I have not fully understood what your trying to get across

    Suggestion:

Yes mate its called projects and tutorials section, it appears you just need to come accustomed to using the place a bit more and have a bit more of a look around you will often find the info in members rides also where people do their own specific build up threads some members are more imaginative than others when it comes to customisation
This would be the most beneficial thing that I think the club could achieve.

Spend a few minutes looking around the site.

Almost everything you mentioned is either easy to set as you want it or is something that already exists.

If any of them remain a problem, we can help you find them.

    There was a stoush?
I have missed nearly every heated argument and feel barer for it.
As I always play the ball not the man, I find forum stoushes (all fora, not just here) provide me with much mirth and belly aching.

Seriously, I hope everyone is alright? Landrovers should bind us, not divide us (I think I paraphrased that quote from Star Trek, or maybe the Three Stooges). There will always be far more of us that use the site for good than those who use it for evil (another paraphrase - was it Austin Powers?)
At our next family meeting I'll table the issue of site subscription.

There is absolutely NO pressure on ANYONE to subscribe
I have it on pretty good authority as long as Inc owns it, its free to anyone that wants it.

No pressure at all. Didn't mean to imply there was.
It's the right thing to do. We just like to discuss these things at our kitchen table. Gives the kids some ownership.

    Cheers
