FYI, normally I wouldn't delete off-topic banter in any thread. However, tomorrow, err, today, after discussion with the other Mods, I'll be editing this thread to get it back to what Incisor wanted - suggestions for improvements to the forum

I think people are missing the big picture. It's not about adding this section or that wiki, it's about how will the forum as we know it continue into the future? The realist in me says it can't, it will be made irrelevant purely by the big internet powerhouse known as Google. Google has forums such as AULRO in its sights and it knows that if it can win us over it can advertise to us directly without any input from Inc and other site administrators. To me as a user I can see the benefit.
I jump on Google+ now and I see "communities" called "Off Road Enthusiasts" and "Range Rover Lovers". I suggest Inc grabs AULRO now on G+.
I think calling Google+ another FB would be a mistake. It will win in the end.

Good stuff Ron!
Please whatever you do though, don't edit out any of that civil war thread down in the Cantina.
I need it as a reminder to see my book keeper about a group buy out of AULRO! I just need 70,000 P38 owners to cough up a dollar each and then we can call it AUP38O and push out all the old riff raff!
Do you think Inc would buy a P38 and agree to do the ongoing system admin?

On the whole pretty good for me, maybe though......
When changes like the google search addition are made, possibly instead of posting it as a thread in a forum not everybody visits all the time, maybe a PM could be sent. That way those of us that are "lurkers" or use www.google as the search function (so don't necessarily visit the home page or general chat very often) don't miss out on it. Plus I don't visit as much as I used to, and when I get the chance to jump on I really just want to get to what I'm looking for, not hunting for things that may or may not have changed. Even a pop-up or something like that the first time you log on after a significant change could be beneficial but the email might spark those that haven't visited in some time to jump back on and check the place out again.
I think that what goes on here is remarkable given the scope (INC and mods included, but also in no small way the members that are not admin but contribute greatly) but I get the feeling that when new additions occur, and don't get utilized fully, they get chopped pretty quickly. Very few of us on here trawl the entire site, and even less of us would be familiar with all the sections, so a periodical update with the changes and such would greatly enhance my time here.
I guess there possibly needs to be an appreciation for the "not so serious" member who just checks in from time to time and is not as familiar with the entire site workings, an email would help in this regard.
It may not be a democracy, but it is still a community and changes to governance and additions need to be distributed so all can take part as intended.
The only other (benefit pending) improvement I could think of is the for sale section which just being a straight forum isn't as slick as it could be for those of us serial window shoppers (and those really looking for their next pride and joy) where the other online places are much tidier in appearance. I guess a small photo hosting app and the ability to tart up the ad would maybe make it a bit more appealing, possibly drive up traffic via internet search and ad revenues if it became a little more like the others (assumption on my part is that is how is works?) and was put out there as a serious place to find a landy. Maybe some of the vendors could host their online stores via this, and another income stream could be generated, just putting it out there, this is a fishing expedition after all.
Maybe I've read the tone incorrectly from a few of INC's posts of late. If I haven't, all i can say is chin up bloke, your work here is appreciated by many and don't let the actions of the few ruin this place for you or any other of the people here who get a lot out of it. It seems to me that the problems experienced of late are related to one type of forum, they're now gone to an extent, as I see it problem solved. It's been tried a few times now, I think it would be safe to say the open topic forum has failed on more than one occasion, no point flogging a dead horse. I'm all for being treated as an adult and I long for the day where robust and frank discussion can take place in the community but the reality is that there are those out there that aren't up to it without it degenerating into a slinging match. The real shame here is the debate suffers as a consequence, but this is something for another forum, elsewhere, as it relates to a broader issue and has nothing to do with my dwindling collection of functional landy's or my growing collection of landy spare parts.
Keep up the good work.
As far as speed goes, on crappy connections it has hung on the banner waiting for the ads to load, refresh sorts this normally for me, not a biggie.
Cheers,
Chris.
I was thinking the other day about all the posts i like and how i could view them better.
Prehaps with the subscribed thred tab could be optimised a bit better and we could just drag and drop the posts which we view the most in it.
And to stir up a bit of intrest we could have thread of the day?
Or we could have a what is hot and what is not? Threads that have a lot of intrest and ones that have gone south?
it woukld be a lot of work for someone or many of forum members but we could have a tutorial of the weekl thread that discusss how to do somthing for the week and then the next week somthing else it dusscussed in detail?
