Not sure, but the big question is how many of the 7 other heads are waiting to do the same.

Think there may be 8 new heads on the silver budgie from singapore tomorrow.

Funnily the top of the piston doesnt seem to be that bad... must be made from some good solid metal, not cheap alloy I would say.

Think they are waiting to see if the cam has any major damage. Wont be any fish on the dinner table for christmas from this trawler.

nahh the heads off, take the piston out of the hole, band clamp the bigends back over the crank stick a bit of tinpate in where the fire ring should be and keep on rocking as a 4v3.

I was taught that 'jake changing' and excessive/over use of the Jake led to premature camshaft and valve gear wear and failure, particularly in Cummins.
when driving the 3070 (903 powered) i was told not to operate the jake when it was stone cold as it could wipe the lobes of the cam.
i found out of a transport company in Toowoomba (JLP) that when they ordered 903's they had them delivered with out jakes for this very reason

You're starting to show your age if you remember trucks being ordered with 903's in them... . They were already dinosaurs when I started at Cummins - many moons ago, and not a great engine from any angle...

The nine and thruppence was an absolute legend! Ellbees had nothing else. Cummins never made a bad engine, don't mention the triple trouble.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

yep i agree v8ian at the time a very versatile engine and even now i would love a 3070 as a classic truck but not the fuel bill thanks
at BCC we had 6 3070's and 3 Road Bosses (cummins 290) plus a mix UD, Fuso v8, 2x 1418 benz, later came 3x 2228 benz's (awful) and much later Volvos.
we also ended up with an LNT 9000 Louisville with a big cam 3 in it, supposed to be 350 HP but it NEVER put that much out despite going back to the dealers several times.

yep i was driving from 1980 until 1992 when i shifted divisions into their container park, still kept me license though
now that i remember the cummins 210 powered butterbox 8 wheeler i drove wasn't brilliant either, all noise and no go,
with a gear stick on either side 5 speed on the left and 3 on the right (bacicat2000 yep old enough to have driven a twin stick)

he turbocharged 903's, VT903 and VT350, were far superior, excellent engines and economical. The turbo seemed to take all the problems out of them. Damn good goers too. Quite a few White Road Commander 1's were built with them late in the production life of the Road Commander 1 and they were very well accepted by the customers.

This is high praise coming from me, a confirmed Detroit Diesel fan. Nothing like an 8V92TA for get up and go at that time.
