Also, older generation and I tend to pay cash for most items. Don't even carry my Credit card with me. Fuel and things such as rates (land and water) and power bills are paid by cash. Do use c.c. for SOME big ticket items such as a recently purchased large screen TV. I guess it's a hangover from my parent's influence........."If you can't pay cash for it, you can't afford it" they would say!!

Only got my eftpos card for day to day stuff. I usually just get cash from my banks ATM and use that.

For on line purchases, I use an Australia Post load and go card. I only transfer as much money as what the purchase is so there is never anything there to steal.

Cash is still king.... It can also get you some handy discounts...

It seems I'm the complete opposite to most people here. I use plastic for almost everything. Cash for small things like coffee, lunch or a few drinks at the pub because cash is just convenient in those situations. I don't like holding up a line because I'm using EFTPOS. So cash is used in those cases...

I have at least 4 cards and each has their own purpose.

These 2 get used for almost everything:
Less than $100 I use ING combined debit/credit card and I get 5% cash back on EVERY purchase less than $100 and I don't pay any ATM fees (even for 3rd party ATM's).
Amex credit card for anything over $100 and I get qantas points. In 18 months I've got a return international flight available to most major cities.

These 2 less common - when the 2 above aren't suitable or I'm overseas.
28 degrees credit card for international travel - no currency exchange fees.
Westpac credit card linked to Paypal for anything online that doesn't take Amex.

I pay all my credit card bills on time so I never pay interest, but I get all the benefits.

And that's how I spend my money.

P.S. Of all my constant usage of credit card (and having 4 of them!) online, in stores everywhere, I've once had 1 fraud incident on the card I used least - the Westpac one. It was no big problem though. Partly coz I have so many others. Partly because the bank blocked the transaction, put a hold on my card and called me about it. Had to get a new card and update some online accounts that automatically charge to it.
