    First of all, replicas should never be worn , especially Anzac Day or Rememberence day. [ Or any official function] . Medals can be replaced, you fill out a statutory declaration, by virtue of the STATUTORY DECLARATIONS ACT 1959 , send it to one of the following, as appropriate;

    RAN Staff Officer [ medals]
    Director, Naval Personnel Services
    D-3-32-A
    Russel Offices
    Canberra, ACT 1800 808 o73

    Army Medals section
    Soldier Career Management Agency
    GPO BOX 5108BB
    MELBOURNE VIC 3001 1800 065 149

    RAAF Director of Administrative Review
    Air Force [E-3-14]
    PO BOX E-33
    QueenVictoria Terrace ACT 2600. 1800 623 306.

If you don't have your name & official Number engraved in the appropriate place on your medals , don't wear them. As for Back yarders, don't use them. Use DVA approved mounters. You will also get , with your medals, Paperwork explaining each medal , and each of the approved mounters will do a history check, before carrying out the job. Google is your friend, DONT BUY TIN MEDALS, only those supplied by the Government are to be worn. Sorry about the lecture, but there is anger amongst the Veteran community over some people wearing medals they are not entitled to. Bob

Federal Government relaxes medal replacement policy

With the recent natural disasters that have plagued Australia, the Federal Government has relaxed its policy on reissuing medals.
A government policy for many years has been that medals can only be issued to the ADF members who earned them.
This has meant in the past medals can only be replaced if they are lost or destroyed after the ADF member has died.
Following the Victorian bushfires in 2009, the policy was relaxed for a period of time while people assessed the damage and determined whether they had medals that would have to be replaced.
For Queenslanders, this means they will have the opportunity to have their own, or their loved ones medals replaced after the wide-spread flooding throughout Queensland and Cyclone Yasi in the North of Queensland.
Parliamentary Secretary for Defence, Senator the Honourable David Feeney made the announcement on Thursday, February 10.
The Federal Government believes in protecting the rights of those who have been awarded medals but also understands the importance of giving family members the opportunity to claim for the medals.
“While the Government is committed to maintaining the integrity of our system of military honours and awards, there are circumstances in which the Australian community rightly expects us to show greater flexibility in implementing the existing policy. I believe this unprecedented series of natural disasters is one of those circumstances,” Senator Feeney said.
ADF medals are able to be reissued to next of kin, or other appropriate members of deceased ADF members if the medals have been lost or destroyed in current natural disasters.
However, medals pre World War I cannot be replaced as they are no longer in production.
Applicants should use the application form and statutory declaration located on the Defence Honours and Awards website at: www.defence.gov.au/medals

If you don't have your name & official Number engraved in the appropriate place on your medals , don't wear them. nobody to date has bothered to check.....although i only have the attendance medals and only wear them because my boys ask that i do As for Back yarders, don't use them. I wouldn't class my mate as a back yarder, he may not be approved but he is passioniate about the military, infact he still serves and does a great job of mounting medals Use DVA approved mounters. You will also get , with your medals, Paperwork explaining each medal i think i understand each of my medals, and each of the approved mounters will do a history check i'm happy that i know what i am entitled to wear, before carrying out the job. Google is your friend i use it every day, DONT BUY TIN MEDALS got two sets thanks, only those supplied by the Government are to be worn. The current RSL is more like a corporation now than the old "League" of returned soldiers.

Similar thing happened in the 70's with a lot of Vietnam Veterans,as some RSL members of the time objected to them ,as Vietnam was not a declared war, but was listed as a UN police action
