Cant believe he didnt roll it! Trailer slide

Anyone needing a good reason to set up their trailer weight keep reading
This morning i witnessed one hell of a vehicle towing a trailer slide
Just after 9am this morning i heard THE longest tyre screaching sounds of my life! FOLLOWED BY ALOT OF SMOKE. It made the hairs on my neck stand like never before. I thought the worst!
Amazon Outdoors is located on the busy The horsley drive Wetherill park. We see our fair share of incidents but today topped them all!
I ran out to see if all were ok, thankfully they were.
Picture this a Forsester GT towing a car trailer with small hatchback strapped on. I spoke to the driver which looked about 30. He said he was doing 70 heading east when the trailer started that aweful sway, he applied a bit of power as you should but that didnt help. Before he new it the trailer kicked out suddenly bringing the tow vehicle along for the ride.
He was completly sideways his car and trailer taking up all 3 lanes siding all the way completly out of control he finished up hitting the gutter and a small no stopping sign with his rh front guard, popping his rh rear tyre as the rig ended up up the gutter/our driveway facing the wrong way! While sideways his trailer cliped another vehicle causing a scuffed rh front guard. How the rig didnt roll i dont know, but someone was looking out for him:Worship:
The vehicle on the back "his pride and joy" was strapped on and didnt move.
Guys here at work saw it better than i did as my view was blocked by some trees.
Now i know exactly why this happened. I want to see if you can pick what caused the sway at such low speeds from the image - its very obvious.
Stay safe this xmas people and be extra careful out there.
    Dan

Beginner's mistake 101, too much weight rearwards of the trailer COG. Towing trailers should be another class on your licence, after a rigorous training session. A lucky dude.

Agree with Bee Utey, car on the trailer the wrong way round for starters. Lucky he did not kill anyone.
On Bee Utey's license comment, I agree and will add - If you can not reverse a trailer then you should not be towing one

I would say the first problem is that he was driving a Subaru, as everyone knows that they are the most dangerous cars on the road. (aside from Camrys)
Second is that he does not know first gear from reverse.

    Spot on

Yes had it have been elsewhere on a narrower stretch of road or even on the same road with usual day traffic (non holiday) im sure it could have hurt (or worse) alot of people

I agree people should be taught the dos and donts of towing.

Politly as i could, i explained to him what caused it. I was there when he unhitched without a jocky wheel! and the trailer popped up of its own.

It actually had negative ball weight!

And what about the fact that Foresters only have a 1600kg tow capacity
I know its only a little hatchback he's towing, but car and trailer's gotta weigh more than that?

So overloaded, and incorrectly loaded, wonder how the insurance claim will go.

Hi Philip. Just wondering why you think subarus are so dangerous. I have had 5 suby's (4 Foresters and one Leoni wagon) and have acumulated over a 1,200,000 trouble free K's in total. Including towing a 7x4'6 trailer to many outback locations. Never had a drama so far (current forester has 200,000 K's.
Maybe there is something going on that I and other friends (Suby owners) are unaware of. Lets know what you are aware of, as I am considering trading again soon.

    Thanks

When transporting cars on my trailer, we have always loaded them on backwards otherwise the ball weight would have been too great.
I think (and others will correct me) the ideal ball weight is ten percent of the mass of the trailer and load.
Some trailers (such as the one discussed in this thread) will require the vehicle to be loaded on forwards to get this ball weight.

Using a toy to tow a car in the first place was his first mistake, i wouldnt even consider towing an empty car trailer let alone a loaded car trailer with a toy vehicle.
