A mate of mine owns a rubicon,it's capable now it's got 5K's worth of aftermarket gear on it,a defender it's not.Prado's reliable, our old one needed towing four times in 2 years. Pat

It is all the electronic software type stuff that i doubt anyone would have in Portheadland.Even for the routine service you need someone familiar with these types of vehicles.

As seen often on this site, once a mechanic not familiar with these types of vehicles gets hold of them, the grief starts

I looked closely at the Paj,not bad, particularly for the $,but still not in the D4 class.Wouldn't touch a Prado.

I would doubt they would honour the free servicing as they are not dealers

Alot of people seem to have been caught out with that.

Funnily enough, I was also browsing the Jeep website just the other day.

Wrangler Rubicon. Almost everything the Defender should have been.

I've never had a problem with he fixed price service part from toyota and the first service we had after the fixed price cost us around $700

Long term the Prado 'may' be more reliable than a Jeep but from what I can see on the AJOR Jeep website Jeeps are improving out of sight to what they once were with newer owners reporting big distances on the clock and no problems. I took what I thought may have been a big gamble on this improving reliability factor and bought a new Wrangler in April this year and I did this knowing that I once bought a Cherokee which was the nightmare of nightmares to own. Fingers crossed but no issues so far with the Wrangler.

Given the Jeep three year warranty and that you can also purchase an extended manufacturers warranty for them then this may be a financial "comfort" factor if unsure about reliability and repair costs.

Jeep Grand Cherokee gives you a lot of bang for your buck straight out of the box but over time their resale value will probably not match that of a Prado.

    Good luck with your decision.
thanks for that. We (the missus) tend to keep her car for about 4 years. However the prado we have is the the first 4wd she has owned and her last cars where lasers and focus's so not a great outlay.

I think that our current prado is at the stage of either keeping forever or selling now as it's proberly the best resale we will get and before it costs big $$ in servicing costs.

I guess buying a new jeep I would like to think there would still be some resale value after 4 years otherwize it might not be a great purchase for us.

No. Why would it? Does Toyota fixed price servicing extend to services done by a non dealer? The service cost is reimbursed to the dealer via the warranty claim system.
