Not bad after 17 years.....
I lent my Disco 300TDi to my son for Xmas holidays, to do a few days camping over on Kangaroo Island. Did the usual pre-trip prep of checking brakes; oil change; greased props; etc.
However, it came to grief on the KI corrugations with a failed water pumpNot sure if the corrugations prompted the demise of the pump, or it would have gone belly up regardless.
The pulley wobbled a lot, and chewed up the fan belt (I gave him a spare belt) so there was nothing to be done to fix the old water pump. Had to get towed 110 Kms, which cost him $400. Luckily it was on the 2nd to last day of his holiday, so at least they got in some nice days of exploring before it failed.
It was still drivable for short distances, so he got it onto the ferry and back to the mainland, and we car-trailered it back to the Adelaide Hills behind the L322. They were looking remarkably happy considering their holiday ended prematurely and expensively!
Fitting the new water pump was 'interesting'. Took some ingenuity to hold the pulleys still whilst trying to undo the bolts. One involved an oil filter clamp, and the other a ViceGrip with the chain wrapped around it.
All back going again, for the princely sum of $90 for the water pump and $90 for the hire of the car trailer.
Cheers
David

Not so unstoppable now, eh?!
All kidding aside, 17 years is definitely not a bad run, and I'm glad to see that it didn't upset their christmas vacation too much. Here's to the next 17 years.....
Mines now 15 years on the original pump,I'll go for the record. Pat
New pump came in a red box! Can't remember the brand, but it was supplied by Sovereign Motors who have looked after my Disco forever, so I'd be thinking it is a reputable brand. It is the same brand they use when they work on customer cars, so they wouldn't want to fit rubbish. On the box is said it had a 2 or 3 year guarantee.
Car trailer came from the local servo, but I think they are a franchise for the Brooks company. Heavy bit of kit, but towed very nicely.
