You need to get out more often Ean, I got caught in a jam more than once getting in or out of Hidden Valley.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

    Ean.
We spent a very relaxing 10 nights just north of where you were in Byron, (like you said, the light house is good) at Hastings Point. It is a coastal locality between Pottsville and Kingscliff. No crowds. We also did a day trip into the hinterland saw the natural arch crossed the border into Queensland and had lunch on the gold coast. Loved it but totally agree. Traffic and crowds suck.

Well the boss and me decided to go and check out Byron Bay today and sat in our first traffic jam in many years just trying to get into the place. Can't say the town did much for me but the lighthouse was worth the visit.
Guess we had better get used to the traffic me thinks
    Cheers Ean

We decided to see Byron Bay on the way past during the break, had the same experience. Massive traffic jam. Went up to see the lighthouse, but turned around when we reached the sign advising of parking fees...

    Not our cup of tea.

that sick having to pay parking fees just to look at a light house, was the parking fees collected by the council or some dope head trying to raise cash for his next joint
