This poem will probably make you cry, but also soothing at the same time. Someone passed it on to me once, I do not know who wrote it but here you go.
    LAST NIGHT

I stood by your bed last night,
I came to have a peep.
I could see that you were crying,
You found it hard to sleep.

    I whined to you softly
as you brushed away a tear,
    "It's me, I haven't left you,
    I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."

I was close to you at breakfast,
I watched you pour the tea,
You were thinking of the many times,
your hands reached down to me.

I was with you at the shops today,
    Your arms were getting sore.
I longed to take your parcels,
I wish I could do more.

I was with you at my grave today,
You tend it with such care.
    I want to re-assure you,
    that I'm not lying there.

I walked with you towards the house,
as you fumbled for your key.
I gently put my paw on you,
    I smiled and said " it's me."

    You looked so very tired,
    and sank into a chair.
I tried so hard to let you know,
    that I was standing there.

    It's possible for me,
to be so near you everyday.
To say to you with certainty,
    "I never went away."

    You sat there very quietly,
then smiled, I think you knew...
In the stillness of that evening,
I was very close to you.

    The day is over...
I smile and watch you yawning
    and say "good-night, God bless,
I'll see you in the morning."

And when the time is right for you
    to cross the brief divide,
I'll rush across to greet you
and we'll stand, side by side.

I have so many things to show you,
there is so much for you to see.
Be patient, live your journey out...
then come home to be with me.
Damn mate... You've reduced me to tears again!!!!

    Thanks though, a touching tribute.

Sorry to hear it Tombie, never an easy time. We lost Rex in October - every time someone posts up about the loss of their friend I am put right back there.

It's the only bad thing about having a pet - they are not around long enough.

Epic_Dragon, touching poem you posted - not good for maintaining ones composure!
    Cheers,

    Sean

Sorry to hear of your loss Tombie, Had a few go in recent years myself well before their time and it still hurts now.

We have a Boxer girl (8) and a Border Collie boy (14 months) now and I doubt we will get another Pet dog when the old girl passes.

I grew up with Boxers and love em to bits but they are not what they used to be sadly.

To make you smile though, heres a pic of my missus's Chest puppies....

Thats terrible mate and sorry for your loss, at least she knew love up to the end unlike a lot pets that get badly neglected or worse.
I took the family into the city to see the xmas decorations the night before NYE and we came across what i assume what the Samoyed owners/breeders club, there were about 15 or so beautiful white dogs as well as a couple of puppies - very cute.

    Hey Mike.
Very sorry for your loss mate. We had two Maltese terriers until recently. Both nearly 15. I cried like a baby when I had to burry Missy. Now Buffy howls all the time until we bring her inside with us. She misses her old friend. Buff is now 15. Not looking forward till that day. So we are thinking of you mate and your family.
    Regards
    Robbo

Well who knew. I certainly didn't know you had a Samoyed. We too have a big white lump of fur, Oskar, as he is known when behaving. I remember sitting in a pub up in the mountains in New Zealand with the family, and the owner's Sammy strolled through the bar, sat down and just lapped up the attention from the kids. That was the deal breaker for us and a couple of months later after finding a breeder, we had the Big O. He's seven now, so getting on, but wouldn't trade him for all the tea.

    Cheers and condolences
    Nick

Yeah it made me cry reading the poem too. Glad you liked it as well though. It is hard when they go I have it coming up with one of my horses, he is 25, turns 26 later this year. I have owned him for about 16 years now. Arthritis is getting pretty bad so I will have to make the choice for him. I dont remember life without him as was young when got him. To think of living in a world where he is not by my side kills me. But I cannot keep him around because of selfish reasons, best thing one can do is set their loved 4 legged free in the end.
Thinking of you and your family in this tough time. The sudden shock of the unexpected makes it a lot harder too
