We had a lot donated coming home after the NSW fires in 1994.Never saw one of them but we were from all over SEQld.Often wondered where they went.
The night before we went home the people of Gosford showed their appreciation in a big big way. Also the run from Queensland to the fireground with a NSW Police escort all the way under siren & lights was a lump in the throat thing. They cheered and in some instances saluted us all the way.Down the F3 was memorable the Police had the traffic to both sides and our convoy of 15 Appliancesplus staff cars went straight down the middle.Coming home was the same the appreciation of the NSW public was overwhelming.

    Guys
These wild fires are having a great deal of press coverage and sympathy from Colorado folk local radio & TV networks.
The grandad who got his family safe in the water got a big hero's two thumbs up a few days ago here by TV reporters nationwide.

Those awful pictures are remenicent of similar events last summer here and up in the Northern tier. This has special significance to us here since we saw 220 odd dwellings go up in smoke on evening in Colorado Springs and many more scorched/lost in Ft Collins area.

If it wasn't for the fire fighters we all would have been in big stuc.
Obviously the same for you guys.
A two thumbs up for some of these brave souls fighting fires, 'cos big fires scare the crap out of me!
Take care and God bless & potect you folks Down Under.
    In our prayers
    Dennis

Yep, big respect to the firies, particularly the volunteers who do it without pay, just because they want to serve their communities.

That'd be all the boys at the front line that are in the RFS, CFA CFS, TFS, etc

cool and raining here.no call outs now.
we cancelled driver reviver [nerong waterholes]due to the heat.
the feed back at driver reviver was very good over chismas with about a 1/3 being fire aware.and thats higher than normal.

What is obvious is that the Firies are getting older and we need to change th way things are done.

father inlaw is out with NSWFR coordinating graders central west last night putting in fire breaks..

Ive only done a night of hurry up and wait baby siting a night shift in the last few weeks at green point.
the night jobs got cancelled and turned to patrol to allow some heavy machinery in.good meals from the caterers.

It a worry when they ring you at 11PM to do a job 130Km away at 1AM.
the 1990's canter can do 105 but up hill its 40kmh.I was pleased we did the trip and got there after 2am.when you get ETA request every few minutes and you pass trucks heading home you have to wonder.

Im council mechanic and the workshop been full for the last few weeks.
little jobs-hoses tires windcreens batteries and a rewire job on the new cat 1.
after burners on fire trucks what are they thinking.

we struggle to get members due to the way the system works.
women dont naturally join unless they have family history with the brigade.

my capt is a women as is one local groupie.

an older trainer recently remarked in his early days he had women only brigades that worked great-these areas had little men available during the day.these ended when the women then had to work.
