HH went to Coonabarabran NSW, about that time, as Group leader, Yes they got a police escort as well, still have the channel 7 footage of them returning getting pats on the back for the huge effort they put in

Yea a big thanks. This was the first time we have made the decision to evacuate our house. Could barely see when we left on Tuesday so I stopped in at the chiefs house to tell them our place was now empty and not a safe block to enter. Even got a thanks and good move to get out. Quite a few of our viliage ended up leaving. Those that stayed didn't sleep at all.
Thankfully for us it moved south and threatened Yass (Not so nice for them)

Wasn't going to stay with 5 kids in a undefendable property. Neighbours also left or I would have stayed to help them.

women dont naturally join unless they have family history with the brigade.

my capt is a women as is one local groupie.

an older trainer recently remarked in his early days he had women only brigades that worked great-these areas had little men available during the day.these ended when the women then had to work.
I have 34 members in my brigade, volunteer fire and rescue "WA " of that 7 are women, all pitch in, one is a driver of the 3.4 and I can find a roll for all, I'm glad the "old" days have changed.Gary

Very, very sad indeed to hear on the News tonight of the death of a Victorian Firefighter. My condolences go to his family and friends.Firefighters both pros and rural volunteers belong to an unique brotherhood which is worldwide. To lay down your life in this profession is sacrosanct and the ultimate for your brothers. Vale Mate.
