We've had those cheap as funnel ones fitted on the last 3 vehicles and haven't hit anything yet.
Don't know if roos hear them but I have noticed sheep looking up startled and racing to get away even though I shouted out that they were safe as I wasn't a Kiwi.

    G'day Ean,

A government department in Queensland that has branches out west fits shoo roos to most of their vehicles. The ones that don't have them fitted frequently get dented by Skippy. It has actually reduced their repair bills considerably.

    Kind Regards
    Lionel

    G'day All

Well I couldn't help myself and bought 2 total cost $15 and this is what I found driving 600ks today.
-Without them the birds would stay picking at road kill till we tooted the horn heaps before they would take off some nearly hitting the car. With them fitted never had to toot the horn once the birds scattered .
    - I watched 2 dingos stand on the side of the road eating whilst trucks went past but as soon as we approached they bolted, we seem 6 dingos today and they all bolted but those two were the only ones I seen that had other vehicles pass and never moved till we came along.
    - never seen any Roos or emus so can't comment on if they really work on them, but for $15 I don't think I am any worse off.

    Cheers Ean

I must add that we never hit any Whales, dolphins, flying fish or turtles either so maybe they are just a scam

    All of which proves nothing.

The study I posted used the stats from 31 transport companies over a number of years, and proved they did not work.

In 17 years and ~300000 km of rural highway driving in 3 different vehicles I have hit 3 roos with only onw of the 3 vehicles. None of the 3 have shuroo's fitted... Maybe the other 2 vehicles scare roos away? (by your logic).

From a vague/nameless government department... If the stats and reduced repair bills were so good you would think they would be touted on ShooRoo's testimonial page...

"The Shu Roo product was posited to repel kangaroos using an ultrasonic tone, however an evaluation by Bender (2001) found that Shu Roo resulted in no difference to kangaroo vigilance response, flight response, or the number of animals actually hit when compared to control vehicles not fitted with the device."

"Research at the Australian National University found that Eastern Grey Kangaroos can hear between 2.5 and 30 kHz but hear best between 2.5 and 12 kHz (Guppy 1985). Further work at the University of Melbourne has found that the signal of one ultrasonic product being promoted as a kangaroo deterrent has a frequency range of 15 to 23 kHz."
