Thread: Shoo roo

Only seen the old (electronic) ones, but the sound they make hurts my ears.


Apparently they do "diddly squat" anyhow. (shoo roo's, not my ears)

A couple of mates have used the small ones that just rely on air passing through them and they have done a lot of miles in country where "grey guideposts" are plentifull without any mishaps! My mate was a real sceptic as his wife purchased them and he just thought they were a load of "you know what" He did a trip up to Quilpie and said the roos were thick on the road and he never had any come close to his vehicle...he couldn't believe it! We have also had the electronic ones on some of our work vehicles and never had any problems with hitting roos......we are in roo country so is it luck or is the gear working?

i have found they work good , the small tunnel ones, even dogs on the side of the road have scatted

I'm sceptical about them but I bought two packs of different types for $2 each. Only stuck one on so far. They are the whistle type and were found in one of those chinese junk hot dollar shops. Cheap enough to give it a shot at a dollar a whistle!

It's difficult to say if they work or not.
Lets say I put them on my disco.
Driving down a road known for hitting roos.
Butterfly flaps its wings in china, causing none of the roos to come near my vehicle.
I can now say "I installed this device, and I didn't hit a roo. QED, it works"
You can't really apply any sort of constant to hitting Kangaroos.
It's not like X kangaroos hit your vehicle every time you travel road Y.

Ean, save your money. A study by the UoM proved they did not work. In fact, I thought they had been prohibited from advertising that they did work???

The high frequency signals produced by the Roo Guard and the Shu Roo,
are artificial sounds at frequencies to which kangaroos are less sensitive.

Captive trials with eastern grey and red kangaroos (Macropus rufus) found no change in
vigilance level in response to the Roo Guard or Shu Roo.

The field trials indicated that, the Shu Roo made no difference to the
number of collisions with kangaroos recorded by professional fleet drivers in
vehicles with or without a Shu Roo.

Hi All

I can't authenticate the veracity of the aforementioned products claims but i can say that for some of us the electronic ones are quite painful and would ask that people turn them off in town areas please. In the shop I found it hard to be nice to customers who had shoo roos on and were giving me the equivalent of a really bad migraine headache - they seemed to think i was testy and i thought i was doing well not too beat them up and smash their shoo roos.

The whistle ones don't work.
Seen the proof. The whistle also doesn't survive the roo strike. No idea about the electronic ones.
