January started out brilliantly for me, I picked up my new 90 on the 9th, and it finished terribly, my best mate was hit by a car while riding his pedal bike to work last Friday and is in critical condition in Royal Perth Hospital. He will be in hospital for several months and then around a year of rehab, we don't know for sure yet, but, last Friday we were all told to come and see him because he wouldn't make it through the night so February is looking to be a good month because he's still with us and he can only get better. He is also a landrover driver and I'll be making sure that bloody pedal bike goes to the tip where it belongs and he can drive his landies to work in future, he has 3.

A few years ago, I was introduced to the story of the Taoist Farmer. It Has helped me many times to put life in perspective.

" This farmer had only one horse, and one day the horse ran away. The neighbors came to condole over his terrible loss. The farmer said, "What makes you think it is so terrible?"
A month later, the horse came home--this time bringing with her two beautiful wild horses. The neighbors became excited at the farmer's good fortune. Such lovely strong horses! The farmer said, "What makes you think this is good fortune?"
The farmer's son was thrown from one of the wild horses and broke his leg. All the neighbors were very distressed. Such bad luck! The farmer said, "What makes you think it is bad?"
A War came, and every able-bodied man was conscripted and sent into battle. Only the farmer's son, because he had a broken leg, remained. The neighbors congratulated the farmer. "What makes you think this is good?" said the farmer."

The rich, lively land that most Australians live on, is there because of floods. Enjoy the best, be ready for the worst.
    Take care.
    B Dave.
    G'day Dave,

I was very lucky and we, my wife and I, did not experience any loss due to the flood. We did have some water flow through the laundry toilet slab and the old shed. My house is an old Queenslander - timber house on stumps. The back of the house has a skillion roof and a concrete slab at ground level. So water flowed across the slab , but there were no losses. There are far too many people in Bundaberg who have experienced massive losses.

Within less than 3 kilometres I drive past piles of domestic goods that have been flood damaged and people who lost everything in their home; and in some cases their whole house. No I have been very, very lucky.

My December - January was set off the rails by other people's incompetence. This is incompetence which occurred while they are getting paid for a job where they are meant to be of assistance to people. It seems that some people consider themselves to be in positions of power and delight in playing with people's lives. Petty Tyrants is a phrase that springs to mind.

Anyway today I did not tempt fate and I just hid in my cave.

My post was more about a summation of the month and a release from it - just like the John Denver song - Some days are diamonds ... some days are stone... Well January was a "stone" month. The diamond days will be much appreciated.

    Kind Regards
    Lionel

    G'day Sandgrouper,

I hope that your mate gets on the mend soon and that he fully recovers.

    Kind Regards

The optimist in me would like to point out that in the event of a lack of improved fortune during the second month, February is the shortest month; ergo, less time to endure ill fortune.

G'day V8 Ian Clap Clap a very smooth delivery - it reminds me of the Monty Python Oscar Wilde sketch
