You need a Vicroads permit to drive it to NSW. The permit will give you a limited number of days to do it and there can be no deviations from the main route.
If it were NSW you would also need a pink slip inspection.
Our series III is getting close to being fully drivable again.
Now would like to drive it from Melbourne to Oberon in NSW. Can anyone help with advice on the best way to do this legally under a permit (?) so that it can be registered in NSW.
It was (13 Years ago) driven from Sydney to Melbourne under an NSW permit (Unregistered) but is this available now; in Victoria? If so how do I go about this?
Don't really want to trailer it back to Sydney as would be fun to get to know it again by driving it home.
Knowledgable replies please..........
Many thanks

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
I've done this when I bought a car unreg from a Victorian dealer. I can't advise on the process to get it but as I recall I had a couple of weeks to get the vehicle home. No route was specified on the permit documentation and the police on the Hume ignored the lack of number plates on the car.

Not if you get a Vic permit.
As mentioned the Vic permit will get you legally from Vic to your destination in NSW as long as travel via a direct route. The obvious route would be Melbourne to Goulburn via the Hume and then from Goulburn to Oberon.
You can apply on line for a permit on line on the Vic Roads website, pay online and they then email your permit to you for you to print off - the Vic system is so easy and quite cheap.

Yep, very easy to do online, just need a VIN number. I did it for my RRS when it arrived from the UK, cost bugger all.

Unregistered vehicle permit : VicRoads
I got a 28 day permit a week ago. Cost me $67.50.
It was an easy process. You will need the VIN (chassis number) and engine number. Previous Vic rego number may also be helpful.
As others have said, a very simple and easy process. Absolutely nothing like the the convoluted NSW process. Ten minutes on the phone and away you go.
No 'slips' of any colour involved. This system is not used in Victoria. CTP is included in the permit cost.

Took me longer. The fellow at Vicroads was very friendly. We chatted about the different permits and their uses. Also searched for my vehicle on multiple databases using previous rego number, VIN or engine number. No record of it anywhere.
