    Re: Not good news

I think these surveys look at more than just reliability. If it looked at solely reliability they should survey how many owners where stranded on the side of the road due to a fault with their new car.

Landy's score bad due to build quality and design issues more than true reliability issues. Heaps of people complain about a rattle in the door or a leaky door seal or a broken plastic clip holding on trim or a faulty indicator relay or a weeping yoke seal.

These issues are annoying if you have just spent 70-120k on a new car but they hardly make the car unreliable.

If anything I would say my Landy has been dependable. Even if it requires constant maintenance, I have never been stranded.

    Don't hold your breath...

This is not a new thing, LR have been doing it for a long time now, "cheap" where they think they can, coupled with outdated and inefficient design... and that's just the production facilities - never mind the vehicle.

We promise not to mention the Plastic head-locating Dowells... or the progressive & inexorable removing of a centre diff-lock.... and the co$t to the owner/enthusiast of re-fitting it...

Lexus and Toyota etc build 'Fit For the Purpose' of their target market, and their consistant high ratings reflects this.

In all fairness, anything 50% above Industry Average is commendable.

LR have failed to meet the same level of building 'Fit for the Purpose' of what they perceive as the target market... Who cares if the LR is the only 4WD capable of driving over a demonstration arch... They can't be relied upon to do it every time.! Or get back home from going 'where no other 4WD has been before'.

Now if LR had allowed the Japs, say Mazda, to re-design, replace and build it to their standards.....

Just glad that no-one believes Nissan diffs/axles to be better than LR butter-sticks...

Maybe a special Driver's Licence for Landys... some mechanical aptitude and loads of humour and patience a pre-requisite....

School Bus drivers over here will soon have to demonstrate competance and (physical) ability for minor mechanical diagnosis and roadside repairs, including wheel-changing.

Every year this happens. J D Power has nothing to do with "dependability". Its owner complaint driven.

All it tells you is LandRover have had a number of owner responses. Could be anything. Not that long ago, Mercedes Benz was bottom of the pile coz one model had key fob issues.

J D Power is only good for subsequent misleading headlines.

Exactly right,it's not a reliability survey but an owners complaint survey. The RRS was marked down because the Yank owners said the steering turned too quickly, the RR was also complained about because the 1Ltre drink containers they have don't fit in the cup holders and VW had owners sooking about the seats being too tight, maybe if 70% of them weren't overweight or obese they'd fit OK. It could be argued that companies with a smaller and more specialised model range should have fewer complaints.

For those who think the results are so incorrect or floored - where is a comparative reliability assessment in which LR scored well?
Easy, ask us.Seriously do you honestly think we would drive and own a vehicle that going by the survey has 220 breakdown/faults?,thats a fault/breakdown every 1.5 days or there abouts. Pat
