    Speed camera regs

Was on the way home tonight. Started the long climb up to Belgrave south from Welington road. Got a few lights flashed at me. Those people must have A: never owned old Landy and or B: never driven one up hill. As I proceded up the hill at a stately pace befitnig a old ute I passed the speed camera vehicle on the other side of the road. Having some consierable time to ensure it was a camera car as it slowly flashed past me. Now from what I was told and have read a speed camera car should have a distance of level ground before and after the postion of the camera, not sure what that distance is. That is a mute point with this situation as there was no distance is this case just a minor lessening of the slope then a continuation of the hill. If I had been fined by this camera I would be questioning the rules.

They can be set up on a decent under certain circumstances. See the policy and operation manual - http://www.camerassavelives.vic.gov....anual-2010.pdf

If you were nabbed under those circumstances I would ask if it had met the criteria and request a copy of this - it has to be written down.

    Cheers - Gav

Well just read those rules posted by bacicat and there in trouble where they where. (Another one for those learing english ). They where set up on a slope that would cause any vehicle to accellerate and not hold speed whilst decending and they where near a change of speed sign as they where not far from a round a bout.

There is a clause there that says they can do it if it is designated as a high accident zone.

They will always find a way around their own rules...

Yep, if they are going to hide like that then they can't chase you to ping you for an obscured plate.

    I might join you...

They reguarly sit here on the edge of the Calder in the dark at 6am on the winter mornings......and they don't have their parking lights on! STEALTH! I think worksafe would crusify the operator...Oh! but he does have his reflective vest on whilst sitting in the vehicle. Well as far as I know "parking lights" are for when a vehicle is parked on the verge of the road....for safety of that vehicle's occupants and the safety of other road users.
Any emergency service is required to have reflective vests, multiple red and blue flashing lights, (or other colours) and clothing with reflective stripes on them to ensure the safety of the employees!
It's not about revenue..it's about road safety!

    Cheers, Mick.

Unfortunately, when the police do things like hiding in the bushes or camouflaging (i.e. unmarked cars) or any other thing that can be perceived as playing the game "cat and mouse", it only encourages some people to take up the challenge and play the game and I know some people who have played it hard.
This cannot be a good thing.
If the police are serious about safety, they should have a visible presence.
For a while, someone had a cardboard cut-out of a policeman on a motorcycle. They put it way up an on ramp to the freeway. People passing that on ramp would see a copper in their rear view mirror and slow down.
That, in my opinion, is brilliant.
