They were all sold to Toyota and Nissan owners, who think they are better than every other land rover ever made...

I still love mine tho, but all my friends think I'm mad

Sold mine but I still miss the "grin factor" it gave when rescuing other makes of 4x4

I was watching one of the hardtop vehicles but gave up looking after it reached $8k

Because in many ways the Pumas are not. Sure if you want air con get a Puma. Some people want a 4x4 that doesn't give them ridiculous problems.

The Toyota and Nissan people would be correct. They don't make truck engined gal chassised 4x4s anymore. The army got 30 years out of them, in civilian hands they should be good for another 30.

They'll be a hard pill to swallow for anyone used to modern vehicles, the Perenties aren't much more than a coil sprung Stage 1. Hell my 2.25 petrol powered IIa has better acceleration and is quieter at all speeds than my 'posh County spec' One Ten!

Spot on mark. You can't compaire a perentie with the modern puma

as a every day drive it would not suit all people. And a puma would offer far more comfort as daily drive, can't see many women going to the shops in them.

But if the prices come down they would make a excelent second car

Heh, I wrote this on a thread on the 4WD Action forum a few years back...

My daily driver is a civvy spec version of what the army is selling off, it's awesome in its brutality. I often get in drag races at the lights, the only reason I lose is because busses sometimes have their own traffic lights. Otherwise i'd cane them every time...I beat B Doubles every time too! Except on hills.
I like how they aren't made of plastic so will never look as brokeback mountain as current model hiluxes, tritons, suzukis, fj cruisers etc. Those things look like rubbish children's drawings after the ink has run.

Mine's just like the army landies in the drive train department, 4 speed gearbox, naturally aspirated Isuzu, no brakes... but with mod cons like power steering, wind down windows, air con that doesn't work, 5 doors, a metal roof, and glorious poo brown carpet that the army 110s don't have. Cruising at 110km/h is towards the upper threshold of mechanical sympathy and just a little beyond industrial deafness.
For 1st and 2nd gear, the stick is on the other side of the car, which is a really good spot unless you need one of those gears, such as every time you drive, and the gear change has to be slow, careful and considered. I double clutch a lot to make changes easier-and that's on a just run-in rebuilt gearbox. Oh, you will have no misgivings about the clutch, it is definitely there, long throw and heavy. Don't get in a left-footed arse kicking contest with a Landy driver.
Driving my 110 is quite a Zen experience really-takes me to another place (Coles carpark for example), but it takes patience, understanding and leaking vital fluids to get there.

Off-road, there is no equal. Some better but most worse. The engine is hugely tractable, deep low range and enviable engine braking means accelerating down steep hills in 2nd low, permanent 4WD is the bee's knees, can fit 33"s without cutting or lifting, great articulation when stock and very easy to get more. Nothing looks as quintessentially rugged as a Land Rover either.

If your current japper 4WD vehicle was built post 1980, you won't want an army 110, your bottom will be too soft and left leg not strong enough. You probably won't have enough Whitworth or BSF spanners either. I love my 110. Ticks every box for me except the chick magnet one. My pushbike does a better job at that. And nobody asks for lifts home from the pub, despite having 9 seats.

(just a couple of white lies to prevent the jap driving horde from buying them )

Mine is most definately NOT a chick magnet, more a CHOOK magnet as it was intended for a roosting house before I rescued it

Crikey, I thought it would all the AULRO crew who grabbed one of these.

But it appears there are some subversives out in the community who are closet Landy Lovers.

I wish they'd bugger off and stop driving the prices up!

    Whowouldathought????
