Can't see a problem with that it's just an adapter, if properly sealed and doesn't leak gas then go for it.
I've got a problem where the old hose on our barby has had it, and the only new hose I can get has a different fitting. The original fitting is this:
And I can cobble up this, using proper gas thread tape of course:
Now, I figure it will be fine, so long as I test first with some soapy water and all of that. Anything obvious I'm missing?

The original one looks like it may be a 1/4" BSP.
There is a good range of adaptors available at Gas Shops and Camping/Outdoor shops and you may be able to get an adaptor to fit so that you can attach one of the other standard BBQ hoses.

Davo that doesn,t look right. Is the outlet on your gas bottle a similar size to photo 1 or photo 2 ? Can you post a photo of your gas bottle and the hose you want to use.

Recently changed mine, can't remember where i got it from though,so the correct hoses are available.
if you do use the flare fitting and union, just use detergent to check for leaks, and it will be all OK.
Thanks, guys. I have tried online, but couldn't find what I needed and otherwise, because of where we live, I'd have to get to Broome with the hoses I've got to have a look around.
Here's the old and new hoses:
And the bottle fittings, which are just the usual barby size:
So that's why I went through my collection of brass fittings and made something up. We haven't used the damn barbecue for years because of this new hose problem, so I figured this would get things going. If you guys reckon it's fine as long as it's gas-tight, then that sounds good.

Thanks Tombie, but that's pretty much what I was looking at, and you can't tell what shape the end is. Most of them seem to be concave. Hence my DIY option, which in the end is usually easier up here!

i'm not a fan of useing tape as i have found some have leak after a few years i would be inclined to have new pipe fitted from the barby to the hose from the gas tank
